Lee Highway Visioning & Request for Community Feedback
A new draft plan on the future of Lee Highway was released this month. Arlington County invites residents to review the plan and submit feedback through the County website until March 31st.
The result of a partnership between Arlington County and the Lee Highway Alliance, the goal of this plan aims to "create a shared vision with perspectives on land use, location of activity nodes, transportation, the public realm, and economic development".
Arlington's Affordable Housing Master Plan recommends that the Lee Highway/East Falls Church corridor include 2,500 committed affordable units by 2040, or 11% of the County's committed affordable housing stock. Today, this region has only 266 units.
To meet this goal, the Lee Highway Corridor will need to add 2,234 committed affordable units over the next 25 years.
Says APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul, "This visioning process offers great potential for a win-win for Arlingtonians, by improving the corridor's public amenities and bringing more diversity to North Arlington with new affordable housing."

What's Cooking with APAH Residents
This month, APAH helped our families get ready for Spring in great health with special cooking and nutrition programs. The Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) and student volunteers from Marymount University worked with Columbia Grove residents to teach healthy cooking skills using donated AFAC groceries. Parents and kids participated in this program together. Special attention was given to sharing knowledge about healthy portion sizes and maintaining a balanced diet. The Virginia Cooperative Extension is helping residents warm up with nutritious winter meals as part of a special series of crock pot cooking class beginning this month. Enrolled families receive groceries to make recipes they learn at each of the three sessions, as well as a crock pot of their own so that they are able to continue using their new culinary skills at home.

New Report Highlights Impact of Arlington Nonprofits
Last month, the Marymount University Nonprofit Resource Center, in partnership with the Arlington Community Foundation, released a new report, Arlington's Safety Net-Nonprofits: Advancing the Common Good. The report details how APAH and 13 other Arlington nonprofits collaborate and leverage resources to fill critical service gaps and prevent higher costs, helping any Arlingtonian during a period of crisis or vulnerability. Highlighted in the report are three nonprofit affordable housing developers, including APAH, which provide 3,814 quality apartments dedicated to remain affordable for low-income Arlingtonian households.
