Affordable Housing Study raises questions about the connection between affordable housing, schools and geographic concentration. APAH shares the goal of providing quality educational opportunities for all Arlington students. We contribute to this goal by providing stable, affordable service-enriched housing for low income Arlingtonians, many of whom are being displaced from the community due to rising rents.

Locating Arlington's Affordable Housing

Volunteer Spotlight: Katie's Storykatievolunteer

Katie Cheney has helped with childcare during evening adult educational programs at Arlington Mill Residences. In the fall, she will attend Johns Hopkins University.

Once on a nice night during a childcare session, I took a few kids out to play on the playground. I had gotten to know most of the kids over the past few months since I volunteer at APAH regularly, and I enjoy being able to recognize faces every week.

The playground soon became full with other kids who weren't in the childcare session, and the group was trying to organize a huge game of cops and robbers. One of my favorite things about APAH is the sense of community, especially with the kids. They debated specific rules of the game; and instead of fighting or yelling, they asked me to provide the final say and resolve the disagreement.

This is just one example of the maturity and kindness I have seen among kids at APAH. Rules of a playground game may seem like a small matter to an adult, but  sometimes it's the small things that are most important to a kid.

I have always been so impressed with the camaraderie and responsibility shown by kids at Arlington Mill, and I want to give them, their parents and APAH a shout-out for helping to create such an amazing generation of young people!
