"Tot Soccer" Scores at Arlington Mill
Resident services program keeps kids active
APAH recently partnered with the Arlington County Public Health Division to bring soccer for boys and girls ages 3-5 years old. Tot soccer was offered for six weeks at no cost to our Arlington Mill residents at the Arlington Mill Community Center Gym.
The children received a free water bottle and soccer ball for participating in the program. Arlington Mill children actively participated in the program. APAH's Resident Services program will continue to offer health and fitness programs to promote healthier lifestyles for residents.

Calvert Manor Renovations Completed on June 30th
|

APAH is excited to have finished extensive renovations on its 23-unit National Register Historic property located off Lee Highway in North Arlington. Renovations include new bathrooms, kitchens, mechanical systems and a new roof. We are especially proud of the new windows, that were custom fabricated to match the original, metal industrial design. These features provide residents with improved, modern fixtures in what Arlington County has designated an "essential" historical property and was Virginia's first property to combine Low Income Tax Credit and State Historic Tax Credit financing.

Join the APAH Backpack & School Supply Drive Donations accepted now through August 15th
|
School may be out for the summer, but APAH is already hard at work with our annual Backpack & School Supply Drive. Please consider helping out by donating new school supplies or backpacks. This program supports the over 400 children in grades K-12 living in APAH communities. All supplies are needed, particularly new backpacks, colored pencils, glue, school scissors and erasers.
Donations are accepted now until August 15th. Deliver supplies to the APAH Office (2704 N Pershing Drive, Arlington, VA 22201). Students go back to school as soon as August 1st, so early donations are encouraged!
Questions? Contact Liz McElwee, Resident Services Manager, at lmcelwee@apah.org or (703) 851-3635.
Thank you for your generosity!

APAH Celebrates 25 Years at Founders Luncheon
|
On June 18th, APAH founders and longtime supporters gathered together at the Arlington Mill Residences for a day of honoring APAH's 25 year history. Participants learned about APAH's current and future goals and projects, and visited many of our properties throughout the county. Additionally, they shared personal memories and favorite stories from their years of support, and recollected some of APAH's greatest milestones during this time. Memories ranged from APAH's strong leaders and community partners and acquiring and celebrating n ew properties, to recalling elephants grazing through Quincy Park as part of APAH's annual circus fundraiser in the early 1990's. Look for more stories and memories in upcoming months as we celebrate our 25th anniversary year! |
Eagle Bank and Volunteers Make Summer Book Parties a Success
|
On June 26th, Arlington Mill Residents enjoyed their first summer book party, which was organized by APAH's resident services program. The event included a book give-away, summertime games and activities, snacks, and water balloons. The children enjoyed meeting and playing with their neighbors. Parents also had the opportunity to meet other families in the building. The book party ended with a parent-child water balloon toss game, which was enjoyed by all.
Buchanan Gardens held its own summer book party on June 28th, which included a book give-away, summertime games and activities, snacks, and water balloons. This event was made possible thanks to Maria Albright who works for System Planning Corporation. Maria came to the event with coworkers and close friends. Maria and her friends did a great job of keeping the children engaged in games and activities.
Eagle Bank helped APAH to launch this annual event at Columbia Grove. Volunteers from Eagle Bank helped to launch this popular program by generously collecting and distributing books. This support made it possible for each child to receive age-appropriate books to keep them busy and learning during the summer months. Thank you to Scott Miller at Eagle Bank, Maria Albright and all of the volunteers who made the summer book parties a success! |
Sincerely,
Nina Janopaul President/CEO
