The Study Working Group is part of the County's three year study of affordable housing in Arlington intended to maintain the diversity of the Arlington community through availability of affordable housing. The next meeting is February 27th at Walter Reed Community Center.

The Springs Celebrates an Important Milestone
Arlington County Board Unanimously Approves Plan for New Affordable Housing Development
On January 26, the Arlington County Board unanimously approved APAH's proposal to redevelop our Carlyn Springs Apartments and to create 71 net new committed affordable rental apartments. Arlington Mill Residences Grand Opening March 24th
APAH will celebrate the grand opening of Arlington Mill Residences on March 24th. The final days of construction are fast approaching and residents will soon begin moving into Arlington Mill. Mark your calendar and look for an email invitation soon!

Arlington County's Community Energy Plan recently won the 2014 National Planning Achievement Award for its commitment to reduce development impacts. APAH's President/CEO Nina Janopaul served as a member of the task force. APAH is excited to be part of this award-winning program through our Arlington Mill property which has numerous energy-saving features as part of its Earth Craft Certification and is District Energy Ready in conformance with the Energy Program. APAH Welcomes New Board Members and New Board Chair

Robert M. Rozen was unanimously elected Chair of APAH beginning January 1, 2014. Rozen, Principal with Washington Council Ernst & Young, is a 32-year Arlington resident. He has worked in the U.S. Senate and helped establish the Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) program. APAH also welcomed three new board members, all unanimously named for three-year terms. Cecilia Cassidy is retired from the Rosslyn Business Improvement District, Michael Geary is the Founder and Trustee of the Geary-O'Hara Family Foundation and Patricia McGrady is retired from the Arlington County government and an APAH resident.
Residents at Columbia Grove Participate in Informative Programs
Columbia Grove Residents Learn about Summer Camp Registration
Arlington County's Parks and Recreation Representative Alicia Perez instructed Columbia Grove residents how to sign up their children for summer camps when camp registration begins February 19. Participating residents also learned about the fee reduction available for low income Arlington County residents. We are excited that our residents' children will be able to participate in fun summer programs.
Columbia Grove Residents Participate in Focus Groups
21 residents at Columbia Grove participated in focus groups last month about health in the community. These groups were run by American University's Dr. Elizabeth Cotter and her students. Residents discussed health issues they felt were important in the community and talked about various ways they would like to work on improving health outcomes in the neighborhood. Dr. Cotter and APAH staff will meet soon to discuss potential programming ideas based on resident feedback.
Michael Spotts, an APAH Resident Services Board Member co-authored Bending the Cost Curve: Solutions to Expand the Supply of Affordable Rentals. The report details the rising cost of affordable housing development and recommendations to address this growing problem. Read the entire report here.
