Buchanan Gardens Residents Enjoy APAH Picnic
Annual Event Builds Community
Buchanan Gardens Picnic 2013 HamburgerBuchanan Gardens Picnic Bounce

Residents from APAH's Buchanan Gardens came out for the annual picnic, held on July 15. Families enjoyed delicious food, learned more about Arlington resources, and conversed with fellow neighbors. The children had fun with arts and crafts, the Moon Bounce, and the water balloon game. You can see more pictures on APAH's Flickr site

APAH will hold two more picnics for its Columbia Grove and Courthouse Crossings residents on August 14 and 15. Volunteers are welcome--email Liz McElwee at LMcElwee@apah.org and let her know which date you can help.

APAH and Phoenix Bikes Club
New Partnership Teaches Bike Mechanics and Safety

APAH partnered with Phoenix Bikes, an Arlington nonprofit that provides youth with real-world skills through the use of bike mechanics and safety, to pilot a new youth development program at two of APAH's largest family-oriented properties, Courthouse Crossings and Columbia Grove Apartments. APAH is offering its young residents the opportunity to participate in the Earn-A-Bike's offsite program free of charge.

During the 12-week program, which began on July 16, Phoenix Bikes's trained instructors meet weekly with youth ages 12 to 18 to change tires and rebuild bikes. Through their hard work, participants also make their way toward earning their own bike.

Carlyn Springs Update
APAH Proposes Redevelopment of Our Own Site

APAH is continuing to refine the redevelopment concept proposed for Carlyn Springs. As planned, the existing 50-year-old, 27-unit apartment complex would be replaced with a new building containing approximately 100 affordable housing units and an office intended for APAH's new headquarters.

The Tenant-Landlord Commission has approved APAH's resident relocation plan, mapping the process for temporary moves off-site during construction and permanent moves back into the new building.  APAH has initiated the process of review with both the Site Plan Review Committee and neighborhood groups.
