APAH Becomes Sole General Partner of Parc Rosslyn
APAH Purchases Paradigm Interest

At the end of June, APAH became the sole general partner of Parc Rosslyn Apartments, the 238-unit, award-winning, mixed income high rise apartment community located in Rosslyn.

When Parc Rosslyn was redeveloped beginning in 2006, APAH partnered with the Paradigm Companies to develop, build and manage this $67 million property. APAH has since had the opportunity to purchase Paradigm's partnership interest, and is now the sole partner.  Currently, 100 of the 238 units in the building are affordable to low-income households.

APAH and Arlington County Partner to Increase Permanent Supportive Housing
Public/Private Partnership Will Provide More Housing for Homeless

The Arlington County board unanimously approved a $1 million public/private partnership to create more permanent supportive housing units at APAH's Marbella property.  The board accepted a $500,000 grant from the Arlington Community Foundation and agreed to match it with another $500,000 in County funds in order to establish the permanent supportive housing program.

"Funds will be used to provide very low rents to formerly homeless individuals," said APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul, "through an innovative mortgage buy-down."

APAH is proud to work with the county and other nonprofit organizations in order to help the most vulnerable Arlingtonians.  For more information, click here.
Interfaith Action Calls on County to Increase Affordable Housing
Over 500 Participants Rally to Add up to 1500 Units in 5 Years

On June 23, VOICE (Virginians Organized for Interfaith Community Engagement) drew over 500 participants to Mount Olive Baptist Church to advocate for increased affordable housing in Arlington.

Participants, including residents from APAH's Columbia Grove and Buchanan Gardens properties, gathered together in an interfaith effort to call on Arlington County to build an additional 1000-1500 units of affordable housing on county and non-profit-owned land over the next five years.

APAH Board chair Rita Bamberger spoke at the action, calling out the need for affordable housing in Arlington.  VOICE hopes to collect 10,000 signatures for their Arlington Public Priorities Platform by October 1.

180 APAH Kids Attend Summer Book Parties
Events Promote Continued Learning During Summer Months

Just because school is out doesn't mean learning stops!  During the first week of summer, APAH holds annual book parties to promote summer reading for our youngest residents.  Across three properties, approximately 180 children gathered for snacks, games, and free books.

Eagle Bank (at Columbia Grove) and Books for America (at Buchanan Gardens and Courthouse Crossings) provided the book donations.  Each child who attended took home 2-3 age-appropriate books.
Reminder: APAH Annual Backpack Drive

Don't forget APAH's annual backpack drive!  Last year, through our generous supporters, 280 APAH children received backpacks and school supplies.

In 2012, school supplies cost an average of $95.44 per student, according to the National Retail Federation. For our low-income families, many of whom earn $60,000 or less annually, these costs can be a significant burden.
