L-R: APAH co-founders Rhoda Nary, Jean Sweeney, and Dolores Leckey

APAH founders, donors and volunteers gathered together in May for our second annual Legacy Luncheon at APAH's Parc Rosslyn property.

The luncheon was an opportunity to celebrate our successes, look back on our growth, and discuss APAH's goals for the future.

25 of APAH's longest-standing donors--who have, collectively, contributed over $70,000 in the past twenty years--shared their personal connections to APAH, expressed concern over the continued challenges to housing affordability in Arlington, and discussed their desires to include APAH in their planned giving.

APAH Announces 2013 Affordable Housing Honorees
Senator Barbara Favola andThe Bozzuto Group & Tom Bozzuto Named 2013 Honorees

At a reception held on May 1, APAH President/CEO Nina Janopaul and 2012 Honoree John Shooshan announced APAH's 2013 Affordable Housing Honorees: Senator Barbara Favola and The Bozzuto Group and Tom Bozzuto.  They will be honored at the Celebration of Affordable Housing, APAH's Annual Fundraiser, on October 8 of this year at the Clarendon Ballroom in Arlington, VA.

L-R: John Shooshan, Rita Bamberger (APAH Board Chair), Nina Janopaul, Sen. Barbara Favola, and Tom Bozzuto

APAH's 2012 Honoree John Shooshan, president of The Shooshan Company, said, "APAH will be honoring The Bozzuto Group and Tom Bozzuto for their commitment to affordable housing in Arlington, especially as the builder and property manager of vPoint for the Church of Clarendon.  Tom, a man of integrity, is a leader among the  multi-family community nationwide," said Shooshan.

"APAH will be honoring Virginia Senator Barbara Favola, an inspiration to all of us, for her work in Arlington to provide housing for those who are the most vulnerable.  As County Board member and County Chair she was our strongest proponent for providing innovative solutions to create affordable housing and provide safety net services to low income residents.  I was honored to co-chair the Leadership Consortium of the Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness with Senator Favola," Shooshan went on to say.
It's time for the annual backpack drive!

Backpacks 2012 CG

The school year is just now wrapping up, but it's time to think about next fall--some of our students return to class as early as August 1.

Last year, through our generous supporters, 280 APAH children received backpacks and school supplies  We ask for your support this year for our sixth Backpack Drive.

In 2012, school supplies cost an average of $95.44 per student, according to the National Retail Federation. For our low-income families, many of whom earn $60,000 or less annually, these costs can be a significant burden.
