Resident Services Update
Nonprofit partners and volunteers focus on needs, programs and energy savings APAH is nearing completion of a resident needs and asset survey that will drive resident services programs in the coming years and help us to better understand our residents and how their needs differ. APAH's South Arlington residents recently learned about "deferred action," an expansion of current immigration laws for children born outside of the US. Edgar Aranda Yanoc, an immigration and employment law expert from the Legal Aid Justice Center also discussed worker's rights. The Virginia Cooperative Extension Service Weatherization Masters are partnering with APAH to provide energy-saving apartment weatherization to residents at Marbella and Queens Court and track savings. Teams will begin weatherization for interested residents in December.
APAH appreciates the work of volunteers organized by Property Management Association (Brickman Group, Southern Management Corp., American Pest, Raine & Son, Scheffres Laundry Service, Ferguson Enterprises, Superior Mechanical Services, Unlimited Restoration, Northeast Contracting Corp., Kolb Electric, PotholeRepair, LCOR, C&C Complete Services, EnviroSolutions, ePIPE, NVM Paving Concrete and Toepfer Construction). They landscaped a courtyard at Courthouse Crossings Apartments and rid the area of invasive ivy. Super Storm Sandy caused some minor damage and power outages at APAH's Columbia Pike, Buchanan Gardens and Marbella Apartments. Staff handed out flashlights provided by Capital One and information on emergency resources. Grelia Soliz from Arlington's Office of Emergency Management spoke at recent resident programs.
