Happy New Year to all and welcome back to your bi-weekly news about the comings and goings in and around Hart House Theatre. In this issue, we give you a sneak peek of the design for the upcoming rock-opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, introduce you to the cast for our next show and let you know about about a new winter party that's taking over the Hart House quad at the end of the month.
Behind the Rock Spectacle
A video sneak peek
In each of our productions, a design team works for months leading up to opening on creating the world of the play as seen by the director. In this short video, captured by Videographer Shashwat Sharma, we get a glimpse of the process and materials that's going into the build for Jesus Christ Superstar.

Marianne Four Times
Meet the cast of our next show

Our spring production, This is for You, Anna, is a haunting exploration of revenge, liberation and motherhood. Breaking the mould of contemporary theatre, it demands that we acknowledge a new perspective and a new possibility in storytelling. When it made its debut in the 1980s, it was the first of its kind: a collective creation that strove to construct a theatrical story that was wholly female. From its structure and creative process to its subject matter and performing space, This is for You, Anna is a cheekily satirical and surprisingly poignant play that stands apart even today.

The amazingly talented women who make up the cast of this show will be working closely with the director and production team to recreate and re-imagine the collective working model that made its mark on this stand-out show. Full biographies will be coming soon, but for now meet the four Mariannes. Left to right, top to bottom are Claudia Carino, Lesley Robertson, Amaka Umeh and Melissa Williams.

Winter Blast
Hart House's inaugural winter quad party

Winter is always cold, but it doesn't always have to be miserable. Why fight the weather, embrace it!

Join our host, Quebec City's own Bonhomme Carnaval, in the Hart House Quad for our first-ever outdoor Winter Blast party. We'll have DJ Jason Palma broadcasting live to CIUT, plenty of warm drinks and snacks, and of course a few heat lamps just in case the dancing doesn't keep you warm. To keep up with our Canadian winter theme, we will be serving the signature drink of the Quebec Winter Carnival - The Caribou. This traditional mixture of red wine, whisky and maple syrup is sure the warm you up from the inside out. For a classic Canadian treat, you can sample tire sur la neige, the always popular maple syrup on snow. Venture into the Great Hall lounge for a quick break in front of a roaring fireplace and cozy Quebec-themed snacks available for purchase.

When: Thurs., Jan. 22, 8:30 pm-1 am

Where: Hart House Quad

Cost: $10 plus HST / 19+* / www.uofttix.ca

Bonus! Join us at Varsity arena from 7:10-8:30 pm for a free skate with Bonhomme Carnaval!
