2012/2013 general slide
Greetings!

Our most recent production, My Name is Rachel Corrie, has come and gone and we are so proud of the work of the talented cast and crew. Both audiences and theatre reviewers had such wonderful things to say about the show and actress Ameila Sargisson, who brilliantly portrayed Rachel Corrie. As always, we are extremely grateful for the support of our season subscribers and enewsletter readers who came out to see the play. We are hard at work on our next production, Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet and can't wait to share it with you all.

For the aspiring actors amoung our readership, be sure to check our website for your last chance to be part of our 2012/2013 season. Audition submission information for Bent
will be posted on the Get Involved section of our website later this week. We are also still taking submissions for Robin Hood: The Legendary Musical Comedy. We've included all the details in this month's newsletter.

In this edition, we share some of our favourite production photos and quotes from reviews for My Name is Rachel Corrie. We also have information on how you can volunteer for the upcoming 2013 Festival of Dance.
The reviews for My Name is Rachel Corrie are in!

"...Sargisson's portrayal of Corrie is real and visceral. She captivates the room. Throughout the play, Sargisson interacts with the set and the audience in ways most theatre productions don't dare to allow their actors to do." - The Medium

"If you only see one show this weekend this should be it." - EAP

"The production at Hart House Theatre directed by Mumbi Tindyebwa Otu and starring Amelia Sargisson ... (is) worth a trip to down to Hart House Circle and the University of Toronto's historical theatre to catch the show and especially Sargisson's luminous Rachel Corrie."

- Scene Changes

 "(Amelia)'s endearing and compelling."

- Theatre Isn't Dead

"...Otu and Sargisson are fearless for mounting My Name is Rachel Corrie. Both have a tremendous future ahead of them." - Mooney On Theatre

"My Name is Rachel Corrie is an entertaining, educational and devastating production. Sargisson is absolutely outstanding in her performance." - Theatromania

Job Posting for

Robin Hood: The Legendary Musical Comedy

Assistant Musical Director

The assistant will acompany all music and dance rehearsals and help to teach the music to the actors and facilitate the development of the choreography.

The successful appicant must have great piano chops, sight reading skills and the ability to play in a variety of styles with comfort.  The assistant must also be able to read the changes from vocal scores and incomplete charts since the music will still be under development during rehearsals.  So an element of basic improvisation and advanced theory is also required.

If interested email Artistic Director Jeremy Hutton - jeremy.hutton@utoronto.ca. Small honorarium available.

Volunteers Wanted

The 2012 University of Toronto's Festival of Dance (FoD) is currently accepting applications for various production positions. The festival will take place March 22nd and 23rd, 2013 at Hart House Theatre.

FoD Logo

Applicants should submit a resume with any relevant experience to uoft.festivalofdance@gmail.com no later than November, 6th, 2012. For more information please see the brief job descriptions below, or contact the festival director Melanie Mastronardi at uoft.festivalofdance@gmail.com.

Assistant Directors (up to 3)

Assistant Directors will collaborate with the festival director in creating the artistic vision of the 2013 festival, as well as organizing and running the submission/audition process. Assistant directors should have experience as a dancer and/or choreographer. Assistant directors may also assist backstage during the FoD performances, but will be able to perform in the festival if desired.

Stage Manager

The Stage Manager will be responsible for organizing all technical aspects of the festival performance, including preparing all technical cues collected from the performance groups, running the technical rehearsals, managing the assistant stage managers, and calling the show from the booth. The stage manager will also be involved in the audition process. Because there are so many different groups that participate in the festival and each number has different requirements, the stage manager should be very organized and attentive to details, ideally with prior stage management experience.

Lighting Designer/Operator

The lighting designer will be responsible for designing the lighting cues for all dance performances in collaboration with the festival and assistant directors, and the choreographers of each piece during technical rehearsals the week leading up to the festival. The lighting designer must also be available to operate the lighting board from the booth during all the festival performances.

Assistant Stage Managers

Under the supervision of the stage manager, assistant stage managers will be responsible for running cues backstage during the festival performance and keeping all the performance groups organized. Assistant stage managers will be required to attend all technical rehearsals the week of the festival and be available to work backstage for all performance dates.
