Prayer. For some it feels as foreign as learning to speak a new language. For others, it is as natural as breathing. For most, it is somewhere in between. With few exceptions, most Christ followers aspire to experience more in their prayer life.

During the forty days of Lent, we will launch a sacred journey toward a richer, more meaningful prayer life. This Sunday, we enter into a six-week sermon series titled Listen: Praying in a Noisy World in the three sanctuary worship services as well as in The Way meeting in Fellowship Hall.  As a resource companion on this journey, we will follow the guidance of the book, Listen: Praying in a Noisy World, written by Bishop Reuben P. Job. He has said he created this guide so that "...together we will learn and practice the habits that will deepen our relationship with God and enhance our ability to hear and respond to God's guidance...because prayer is the pathway for a vital, growing, and fulfilling relationship with God."

Pick up your copy of Job's book this Sunday in the gathering area or contact Susan Hale. Resources are also available for Sunday school classes and small groups that would like to study along with the sermons given by Rev. Todd Harris and Rev. Brian McPherson. A Kindle version of the book is also available online for download.

Rev. Todd Harris will also be leading a study of the book during his Pastor's Bible Study on Wednesdays at 7:00pm in the parlor, starting Wednesday, February 25.

LAY SERVANT TRAINING
The North Central District of the United Methodist Church of North Texas offers two days of laity training at FUMC Allen on February 28 and March 7.

Courses offered are Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course, the foundation for all the other Learning & Leading courses for Lay Servant Ministries; this course is required to become a Local Lay Servant, Certified Lay Servant, and Lay Speaker.

A new course,  Justice in Everyday Life, takes an in-depth look at the Social Principles of The United Methodist Church-the church's attempt to speak on contemporary issues with which it is confronted today.

Another new course, Leading Worship, focuses on the ministry of the lay servant who either regularly or occasionally leads (or assists in leading) a group or congregation in worship.

All laity are invited to participate in these Lay Servant Ministries courses, not just those seeking to become a Local Lay Servant or Certified Lay Servant. Contact Leslie Maynard, leslie_maynard@sbcglobal.net.

DEBORAH CIRCLE BRINGS THOUGHTFULNESS TO LOCAL SHUT-INS

On February 15, members of the Women in Mission  Deborah Circle gathered personal materials and assembled 19 Thinking of You bags to residents of local nursing home.

These products and devotional materials were provided by Deborah Circle members and other women of the church.

Four circle members delivered 13 bags to residents who attended the 2:00pm worship service at The Belmont at Twin Creeks skilled nursing center. They delivered one bag to an FUMC Allen church member who was not able to attend the service. Five bags were delivered to the nurses station to give to residents who don't have visitors.

Special thanks to all who participated in this service project. The next Deborah Circle meeting is Sunday, March 15, when the group discusses living in joy.  Contact Burna Faye Kennedy for more information.

Words from The Word

What shall I render unto the LORD for all His benefits toward me?
I will take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the LORD. I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all His people... I will offer the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD... Praise the LORD. Psalm 116: 14-19
