The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they camped in Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. Those twelve stones, which they had taken out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal, saying to the Israelites, "When your children ask their parents in time to come, 'What do these stones mean?' then you shall let your children know, "Israel crossed over the Jordan here on dry ground." Joshua 4:20-21

Children ask great questions.  Sometimes they can stop us dead in our tracks and really stump us. God was really thinking when He told Joshua to set up the stones and be ready for the time that children would ask what they meant.

God wanted the children to know the story of His power and faithfulness. He wanted the children to know that God delivered the people through the Red Sea out of slavery and again through the Jordan River just as He had promised.

It was forty years of wandering through the wilderness that led to the crossing of the Jordan and the entrance into the Promised Land. Forty years in the Bible is equal to one generation. God wanted the children of the present and future generation to know the story of their ancestors' deliverance.

I believe what we do at FUMC Allen is about loving and caring for all people in our church and community; however, we should never forget that what we do today will impact future generations. What we do today will impact our children and children's children.

We, too, would do well to be prepared to answer our children when they ask the meaning behind the "rocks."  In other words, our children and their children will one day ask how God used us to change the world and whether or not we were obedient and faithful.

This Sunday, November 9, we will hear plans for our future. Come and hear a new vision and new direction for our congregation on Sunday morning during each of the three sanctuary worship services. The plan you will hear will be the WHAT for our future.  The HOW is yet to be determined but shall be orchestrated by additional members of our church.

We will also hold be a Town Hall Meeting on Wednesday, November 12, at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall for those who miss the announcement this Sunday or would like to have a chance to ask questions and hear more.

See you Sunday?

In Christ,

TH
