August 24 2014

Monday, August 25, marks the official end of summer for many of us as our children, teenagers, young adults, teachers, school employees, professors, and administrators return to the classroom.

On Sunday, we offer a special Back to School Blessing for everyone heading back to school this week. We hope you'll be in worship to receive this special blessing and a special gift from FUMC Allen.

And today we offer up this prayer for peace for our children:

Lord, we pray that our children will experience the peace of God this year that exceeds all understanding. We pray they will not worry about things they cannot control, but that You will guard their hearts and minds and keep them trusting in You. We pray they will not only enjoy the peace of God, but peace with God. We pray they will develop a spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving as they look to You daily for their needs. We pray that You will give them the capacity for joy that bubbles up from Your peace. In His Name, Amen.

CELEBRATIONS!

You may have noticed the construction going on over our heads here at FUMC Allen.

After fighting miscellaneous leaks throughout our buildings for 10 years, we were blessed with a major hailstorm this past spring that allowed us to negotiate a settlement with our insurance company that provided us a new roof for our properties. This week we are approaching completion of that huge project, just in time for school to start.

Many thanks to our trustees, Mike Raybon who volunteered to use his building expertise as the project engineer, David Franck, and many others who had a part in moving the project forward.

Also, thanks to Robert Lanier Roofing, the contractor doing the work with excellence.
