What Do I Read (or Watch?) Next?

Here are the latest book and movie recommendations by our library patrons, staff and volunteers.  Want to share your favorites?  Stop by and fill out a book/movie recommendation form, or send an email to sturgislibrary@comcast.net with your suggestions.

Circulation Services librarian Karen Horn recommends the audiobook version of Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic:  Creative Living Without Fear.  Read by Gilbert herself, she speaks directly to the listener/reader, and shares great anecdotal stories, words of encouragement and personal challenges.

Sturgis Library patron Jan Fletcher gives 5 stars to the new bestselling book Jefferson & the Tripoli Pirates: the Forgotten War That Changed American History by Brian Kilmeade and Don Yeager.  "It' an amazing true adventure of a war between the Barbary pirates and the U.S. in its infancy and how the bravery and mettle of a few men, along with Jefferson, saved our republic!"

Susan Barry, a Sturgis Library regular, highly recommends Isabel Allende's The Japanese Lover.  Susan says that her Allende's beautiful, lyrical style and compelling story are delicious!

The staff at the circulation desk all read and enjoyed actor/author Ethan Hawke's Rules for a Knight : the Last Letter of Sir Thomas Lemuel Hawke.  A knight, fearing he may not return from battle, writes a letter to his children in an attempt to leave a record of all he knows. In a series of ruminations on solitude, humility, forgiveness, honesty, courage, grace, pride, and patience, he draws on the ancient teachings of Eastern and Western philosophy, and on the great spiritual and political writings of our time. His intent: to give his children a compass for a journey they will have to make alone, a short guide to what gives life meaning and beauty. This charming little book is illustrated by Hawke's son Ryan.

Circulation Assistant Lisa Hall Conway listened to the audiobook version of musician and singer Carly Simon's autobiography Boys in the Trees.  She enjoyed Simon's descriptions of life growing up in the 1960s and 70s, and was pleased and surprised to find that Carly enhanced the audio with spontaneous singing.

Check the CLAMS website for more suggestions of new and popular titles. And stay tuned to next month's enewsletter for more suggestions!

Please note:  If you've filled out a recommendation form and don't see your recommendation listed here, don't despair!  It will be featured in an upcoming edition of our enewsletter.
