Upcoming Programs for Adults

NEW DATE!!

Leaving a Legacy Through Lasting Words
with Claire Willis
Saturday, June 27 @ 4:00 p.m.

Most of us, as we grow older, share the wish to be remembered, to feel that our lives have made a difference and to express our values, life lessons and love to family and friends. Many of us have prepared legal wills to distribute our belongings, but few of us have considered leaving a spiritual/ethical will--a record of who we are that can be offered to loved ones. Author Claire Willis will address some of the universal concerns that emerge as we age, such as life review, gratitude, making amends and closing our life and will discuss various techniques and resources for creating a legacy that reflects what is most essential to us. This workshop is free, but registration is requested.

Friday, June 26th, 1-2pm

School's Out For Summer!!!!  All seven villages of Barnstable are invited to celebrate the start of summer and register to participate in a Summer Reading Program that promises to keep their hearts happy and brains healthy.  Enjoy some live folk music and sweet treats with friends (and your favorite librarians) in the newly renovated lower level community space at Centerville Public Library.

All Ages

Drop-In

If you can't make the Kick-off party, swing by Sturgis Library to register for the Summer Reading Program - Every Hero Has a Story any time after June 26th! Win prizes for hours read and/or submit a book review each week for a chance to win a raffle prize.

Also, enjoy these fun hero-themed events for kids in July:

Be a Hero - Recycle!

Enjoy an awesome story and make several fun crafts from recycled materials at Sturgis Library.  All participants will be entered to win raffle prizes and are guaranteed to leave inspired by what Cape Cod Youth can do to help preserve our environment.  Join Barnstable County AmeriCorps Cape Cod members, Katelyn Olsson and Sawyer Cresap, as they share the fabulous journey of a plastic bag as he floats around Cape Cod in the children's book they authored and illustrated:  The Plastic Breeze

4-Legged Heroes

The Companion Animal Program aims to enhance the quality of life for the older and disabled population on Cape Cod.  They'll be here at Sturgis Library with their therapy dogs so we can snuggle and read to them, as a way to show our appreciation for the special work they do.

Preschool Storytime

NEW TIME for the summer!

Join us for Drop-In Preschool Storytime every Thursday morning at 11:30!

Miss Megan will share stories, songs, fingerplays, and more!  The program is geared to children ages 2-5 and their parents or caregiver, but siblings are welcome to attend.  No need to register -- just drop in!

Keep an eye on our events calendar or follow us on facebook to hear about the latest programs for children, young adults and their families.

Free Lunch at the Library

Sturgis Library has partnered with the YMCA Cape Cod to offer Free Lunch At The Library this summer!  Any child 18 and under is welcome to come from 12:30-1:30 every Thursday (July 2nd - September 3rd) for a free healthy lunch.  No restrictions or requirements.  Though not necessary, advance registration would help ensure we have enough lunches on hand each week.  You are welcome to join us on one, some or ALL Thursdays.  The start of our regular story hour will be moved from 11:00am to 11:30am on Thursday mornings for the summer so families can stay and enjoy a free lunch (if they so choose).  We'll feed their minds with good books and their bellies with good food!  Meals can only be served to kids 18 and under.

Save the Date!

Join Tales of Cape Cod and Sturgis Library for an author talk, reception, and book signing with political analyst and commentator David Gergen.

Join the Parade!

Over the years Sturgis Library has had great fun participating in the Barnstable Village 4th of July Parade!  We've dressed up as pirates, wheeled a giant cupcake through town on a wagon, and last year we wore Kurt Vonnegut mustaches and played kazoos!  What will it be this year?

And we need YOU!  If you're interested in marching in or helping out with the Sturgis Library's parade presence, we'd love to have you.  All ages welcomed, from babies to seniors!  The Library represents the whole community and we want to celebrate that with you.

Please contact us at sturgislibrary@comcast.net or call us at 508-362-6636 and leave your contact information.  A member of our parade committee will get back to you.

For more information on ordering microfilm, visit our website at http://www.sturgislibrary.org/familysearch-affiliate-library/

Researchers are welcome to access their FamilySearch materials any time the Library is open.  We suggest you make a reservation to use the microfilm reader to ensure availability.  Printouts are 20 cents per page.  Call the library at 508-362-6636 to reserve the reader or for additional information.

Memorial and Honorary Donations

Have you considered making a donation to Sturgis Library in honor of or in memory of a loved one, friend, or important person in your life?

An honorary gift not only pays tribute to a special person, but is a great way to give a gift to someone who loves books and libraries while also supporting Sturgis Library.  They will receive a letter from the Library letting them know about the gift.  The donation will also be highlighted in our annual report.

A memorial gift pays tribute to a friend or loved one who has passed away.  We acknowledge the gift to the family as well as to you.

To find out more about memorial and honorary donations visit our website at  http://www.sturgislibrary.org/memorial-and-honorary-donations/ or call Lucy at 508-362-6636.
