Teen Artists Coalition

Sturgis Library is delighted to launch our latest collaborative youth program:  The Teen Artists Coalition of Cape Cod.  This "society" of young artisans will gather one Saturday per month to engage in cutting-edge creative self expression.  Each 3 hour studio project will be relevant and enthralling but also chosen to ensure success, in support of our ultimate goal for this program - to empower our young adults with self esteem and healthy/constructive coping strategies for the difficult road of life ahead.  Collaborative instruction will be provided by local artisan, Nettie Berkeley and Youth Services Librarian, Megan McClelland Nickerson.  The program (including materials) will be offered free of charge.  At such a critical time in personal development, it's

arts

especially important to have "cool" alternatives that satisfy boredom and curiosity - art is a healthy addiction!  A graffiti art mural designed and created collectively as part ofthis program will become the Teen Artists Coalition logo and will be leveraged for future promotion and fundraising efforts.  The first 6 sessions are partially sponsored by The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and we will enthusiastically aim to continue/sustain this engaging safe haven for Cape Cod teens.

Registration Required - Space Limited To 12 Teens (ages 13+) Per Saturday.  To register for any of the following programs, please call the Library at 508-362-6636 or email Megan at sturgiskids@comcast.net.

America's Women in the Revolutionary Era

dar booksMembers of the Captain Joshua Gray-Jonathan Hatch Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) stopped by the Sturgis Library to donate an impressive set of books to add to our genealogical reference collection.

The 3-volume set, America's Women in the Revolutionary Era 1760-1790: A History Through Bibliography reveals published resources from the 18th century to the present day that describe and document women's and girls' lives during the era of the American Revolution. The encyclopedic scope of this new bibliography makes it an indispensable resource for genealogy and history collections.
dar Regent Carol D. Kelley, Historian Margo J. Lewis, HSR Sara P. Baker, and members Wendy O. Maggio and Grace L. Anatasio were in attendance as the books were presented to Library Director Lucy Loomis.

The set will be added to the genealogical collection and housed in the Hooper Room.  Sturgis Library is very grateful to the Chapter for this generous donation.

Become a Sturgis Sustainer

monthly Some of you may have recently received our Annual Appeal letter in the mail, asking for your help in reaching our FY13 fundraising goal.  Read on to find out how easy it is to give online!

As you know from previous issues of this newsletter, the Sturgis Library relies on your generous donations for 60% of our annual operating budget.  We appreciate the support of our many donors.

We want to make it easier for you to give to the library on a regular basis, and so we have established a new monthly giving program where you can tell us how much you want to give each month, and the amount will automatically be charged to your credit card.  Your donation of $5, $10, $25, or $50 a month (or more!) makes a huge difference to the Library, and helps us meet our fundraising goal.

As a thank-you, we're offering your choice of a Sturgis Library Bistro mug or Sturgis Library cap for signing up for monthly donations or for giving $100 or more a year.  This offer is good only through June 30th, so make your donation soon!
