Congrats to our Great Vacation Retreats ohana keiki, Presley Grant and Skyler Wandasan, for doing so well in their divisions at the Live Like Sion surf event. It was an awesome day out at PK'S surf break fronting Kuhio Shores Vacation Condos and the Beach House Restaurant. The local surf community gathered to support the 3rd annual keiki Gromfest and we are proud of every surf grom (and parent) who paddled out!
We are so lucky to live and raise our kids here!

What does it mean to Live Like Sion
|
Congrats to all of our amazing Kauai surf groms (a.k.a. young surfers that rip) that participated at the 3rd annual Live Like Sion Gromfest at Pks last weekend.
A big mahalo to the Live Like Sion Organization for bringing this surf event to our community. This organization was formed to honor the life of Hawaii big wave surfer Sion Milosky.
"Live like Sion is a way of life. To live life full of Aloha and Respect for your family, friends and community. Living each day to the fullest and never taking anything for granted. Perpetuating the good in us all, in and out of the water." (excerpt from Live Like Sion on Facebook)
 | Sion Milosky, seen here with his daughter, is greatly missed by surfers around the world. |

Gromfest Surf Keiki's and their Dads
|
Surfing is a way of life here in the Hawaiian Islands and a special rite of passage that is passed down from parents who love surfing to their keiki. Many of these keiki (kids) take to surfing as naturally as learning to ride a bike. From the moment they can balance on a foam longboard they learn to surf, learn to swim, and most importantly they learn to respect the power of the ocean.
The Gromfest celebrates these young surfers, encouraging them to get out there and ride some waves! With the support of their family and friends and a helpful paddle-out and push-in for those who needed it, our Kauai surf groms ripped it up.

Sunrise and Sunset - it's a mango feast!
|
Everyday at dawn, our neighborhood wakes to a raucous chorus as flocks of parakeets happily gather in the mango trees across from our office. They chatter and screech as they feast on the sweet juicy fruit. They disappear for most of the day but they return like clockwork at sunset, gathering to feast again before they fly off to their communal roosting site. We hear reports of other areas in Kalaheo and Koloa where these brightly colored and gregarious birds are gathering. Where they have come from and how many there are is not accurately known. Some say feral flocks formed after domestic parakeets were released into the wild during Hurricane Iniki or as early as the 1920's. The Ring-necked or Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) is a mainly green parrot with a red bill and a long, tapered tail. It is defined in the Hawaii Revised Statutes as "injurious wildlife" defined as "any species or subspecies of animal except game birds and game mammals which is known to be harmful to agriculture, aquaculture, indigenous wildlife or plants, or constitute a nuisance or health hazard." Pests or not, their noisy chatter annoying to some and not to others, you cannot deny their beauty.
