"Voice of the Chamber"
By Becky Brooks
Executive Director
Our Members are our Customers! Our business is serving their businesses!
The Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce is all about business advocacy, community service and promoting Lincoln County.
This month your Chamber of Commerce held another Youth Association Scholarship Golf Tournament. We will be able to give out over $5000 in Scholarships to our various Youth Associations. We sincerely thank everyone that sponsored the Event and each and every golfer that played with us!
We will be hosting an "Evening with Your Legislators" on December 12th at the Ruidoso Convention Center. We will also have a Reception for our Legislators during their Session on February 5th at The Inn & Spa at Loretto in Santa Fe. Both of these events give you an opportunity to talk to our Leaders and find out more about what is happening in government on a State level.
On a local government level, we will be hosting Candidate Forums before our next elections. In 2014 the Village of Ruidoso will be electing a new mayor and filling several Council seats. When more information is available on the Village elections and the elections in Ruidoso Downs and Lincoln County, we will share it with you. We encourage you to come to the forums to see who is running and find out more about their visions.
We hope you enjoyed the "Aspenfest Parade" and we are looking forward to our "Festival of Lights Parade" that will be on December 7th. We love the parades...who doesn't love a parade? You can get your application for the Festival of Lights parade at our office or on www.ruidosonow.com.
We want to keep you informed of Events, Business After Hours, and other opportunities that you have available to you as a member of this Chamber. If you use Facebook, like the Chamber's page to keep informed! CLICK HERE to go the the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page and LIKE us! You can always check our website out at www.ruidosonow.com to see what is happening in the community.
This year we want to continue to improve our role in the Community and want your input as to how you envision your Chamber's steps to make that happen. We recently sent all of our Customers a survey so we could rate how our Chamber is perceived and find out what our Membership would like us to focus on. Some of you have participated in the survey and we Thank You for taking the time to do so. I truly want to know what we can do for you. The survey was anonymous so if you have specific issues please call me!

RUIDOSO VALLEY GREETERS
October was a bit of a busy and a shaky month for the Greeters as their president ended up in the Heart Hospital in Albuquerque under going some heart procedures, which included receiving a shiny new pacemaker. However, being the outstanding group of ladies that the Ruidoso Valley Greeters are, they carried on and did a beautiful job of getting ready for the Christmas Jubilee in this all important month before the big event!
The month began with a wonderful Champion of Service ceremony for the owners of the Hometown Tire store. What a gracious and grateful family that the Greeters were privileged to recognize.
Of course, the Aspenfest Parade is always a wonderful event for the Greeters as they get to welcome in the beautiful Christmas season by escorting Santa into our village. One of the Greeters favorite treat is being served hotdogs with all the trimmings by the Lion's Club following the parade.
October the 17th the Greeters performed a ribbon cutting for Michael J's restaurant. On the 26th the Greeters helped out at the Military Appreciation Day at Wingfield Park. A new event for the Greeters but one that all involved really enjoyed and considered an honor to help honor our great service men and women.

AGING ADVISORY COMMITTEE FROM ENMU-RUIDOSO
This "Livable Community' survey is the first public project of a focused ENMU-Ruidoso advisory group, which is an outgrowth of the Creative Aging class offered at the campus during the fall of 2012.
The survey concerns both current and future needs of the 50-plus population of Lincoln County regarding what resources (housing, transportation, health services, etc.) are already in place and which areas need to be improved to make Lincoln County an outstanding age-friendly community.
