Growing Up Carrier
The featured artist on our blog  for the fourth quarter is local Grammy winning zydeco musician Chubby Carrier. This week on the blog we caught up with Chubby who took us back to the early seventies in Church Point, Louisiana, where he first discovered zydeco. Watch as he gives a rare glimpse inside the multi-generational and exceptionally talented Carrier household.

The road to Chubby Carrier's house is a picturesque view of rural Louisiana. Surrounded by cane fields and open stretches of farm land on the outskirts of Lafayette, Louisiana, the Carrier residence evokes feelings of home that any Southerner can relate to.

Chubby's energy is infectious. He speaks with such joie de vivre that guarantees a smile on anyone within close proximity. Chubby's enthusiasm for his heritage and culture is present in every aspect from his life-both professional and personal.

Raised in Church Point, Louisiana, Chubby was introduced to zydeco music as a young child by the musicians in his family. His father, Roy Carrier, and grandfather, Warren Carrier, were established zydeco musicians that Chubby would watch in awe during band practices. "When they started performing and playing that sound, it just did something to me," Chubby said. "I wanted to be a part of it."
