Fall Reading

Since reading is a key part of spiritual formation, the staff at HOPE recommend a book each quarter for you to read with a group of friends or on your own.  The fall selection is Love Does by Bob Goff.  His book contains paradigm shifts, musings, and stories about what fuels his life - Love.  Not the kind of love that stops at thoughts and feelings, but the kind of love that takes action.  Bob believes that when Love Does, life gets interesting.  Each day turns into a hilarious, whimsical, meaningful chance that makes faith simple and real.  It is available for $15 at the Welcome Desk.

Orphan Sunday - November 4

Did you know there are over  150 million orphans in the world?  A true crisis.  So who's responsible to do something?  The Church is according to James 1:27.  Because we, God's people, have the ability to respond through Christ in us!

Orphan Sunday is November 4 and Fathered, an orphan care ministry started by "Hopers", will be available if you feel God nudging you to action.  Respond by coming by the table in the concourse and attending the information panel after the 11:00 service (lunch will be provided).  Fears, doubts, and misconceptions around adoption, foster care and orphan care will be addressed through a panel of professionals in the field, adoptive families, and foster parents.  We look forward to seeing you on November 4!
The Vine - First Annual Singles Picnic
  November 3
Vine
Our First Annual Fall HOPE Singles Picnic will be held from 12:00 to 5:00 PM at one of the area's most beautiful parks, Robious Landing Park, next to the James River (only 15 minutes from the church). For those who like activity, we'll have something for everyone including volleyball, horseshoes, football, tennis, badminton and everyone's favorite, cornhole. And what would a picnic be without plenty of food? We're asking everyone to bring their own main course (one that does not need grilling) and a dish to share based on the first letter of your last name. We will plan to eat at 1:00 - join us!

Journey to Freedom

   October 24

HOPE is partnering with the local YMCA to offer an 8-week small group designed to lay a foundation for change in areas that keep people from reaching their full potential. This Christian curriculum casts a hope-filled vision for improvement in spirit, mind and body through weekly readings, thought-provoking questions, and discussion.

The Journey to Freedom groups will meet at HOPE on Wednesdays at 6pm starting on October 24. The $45 registration fee includes materials and optional childcare.

For questions and registration, email Robin Lafon, lafonr@ymcarichmond.org  or call 804-270-3866 x 161. You may also request information about Twelve Steps to Freedom, a 15-week Christ-centered twelve-step program.

HOPE's 15 Year Celebration & First Saturday Service

It's only four days away and we are gearing up for a great weekend together! On Saturday, Oct. 20th, come to HOPE at 3 pm for a fun afternoon of bluegrass, food trucks, and some children's activities. Bring a blanket and plan to spend time together with family and friends as we soak up the sun and celebrate HOPE together. Then at 5 pm, we kick off THE GARAGE in the multipurpose room, a family experience geared toward K-5 families that will blow your mind!

Finally, everyone's invited for an awesome time of worship at 5:30! Childcare for the 5:30 service is only birth-3, with full childcare kicking off on Saturday evenings beginning 10/27. Questions? Email Kin at kinh@htrsi.com.
Elder Nomination
  Open Until Sunday, October 28

The nominating period for elders is now open.  HOPE's elders offer leadership and exhibit a mature relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  A candidate for elder should manifest leadership gifting and interpersonal skills.

Elders serve 3-year terms.  Any active member of HOPE can nominate another active member of HOPE that is not in their family.  Please visit the website for more information and to make a nomination.
