A couple of weeks ago I attended a conference focused on helping small business owners get opportunities within corporate entities. The conference had a number of speakers to support that agenda. One theme that caused me to think about ICF-NJ coaches who have a business or looking to have one if the future was "think like a CEO."

Many coaches start their own business and quickly become business owners, which means they perform most if not every function in their business. Over time they create a "job" for themselves inside their own business and struggle to break through to the next level. The breakthrough comes with a shift in mindset. Becoming the CEO involves assessing how you spend your time, making decisions that move your business forward which might be a stretch, and engaging people to help with the back office functions...to name a few

If you are looking for a breakthrough, ask yourself: What would I do differently if I thought of myself as a CEO? I invite you to make at least one change during the month of August to support you stepping into the next phase of your business.

Welcome Calls

In July we offered two welcome calls to provide insight and answer questions. Thanks to those who able to participate live or emailed questions ahead of time. Both calls were recorded and will be available on the ICF-NJ website in the days to come. An email with link will be sent out to New and Premier Members once the recordings are available.

ICF Global Updates

By now you may have received an email update indicating that ICF Global has updated the Code of Ethics, Vision and Mission for the organization. You might want to take a read to stay current on the changes

ICF Advance 2015: Science of Coaching

There's still time to register for
ICF Advance 2015: Science of Coaching! This event takes place in London, U.K., September 17 - 19, 2015, and will offer a deep dive into the science and theories behind professional coaching.  Featuring sessions by Professor Peter Hawkins, Doug Silsbee, PCC, and Professor Tomas Chamorro-Premuzi, the event will be a huge opportunity for every coach in the global community. You can attend this in person or virtually.

Upcoming Changes to Credential Requirements

The ICF has adopted new requirements for the Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credentials. These requirements will restrict eligible coaching experience hours to those completed after the start of coach-specific training.

These changes are intended to raise the standard of credentialing, provide for a clear demonstration of coaches' experience as a direct result of coach-specific training and emphasize currency of client-coaching hours to ensure that coaches who earn ICF Credentials are currently practicing.

ICF will begin allowing those that meet the requirements to apply under the new criteria on October 1, 2015 at 12:00 a.m. (New York).

Learn more by visiting www.coachfederation.org/credential.
