Brandeis Collegiate Institute Summer Opportunity
 
The Marilyn and Sigi Ziering Brandeis Collegiate Institute (BCI) is an intensive experience in Jewish learning, culture, and community offered to young adults, ages 18-26, at our summer camp in Southern California.
 
It is a 26-day exploration of Judaism, community, and self within a safe, pluralistic environment.
 
BCI brings together young Jews from all over the globe to study with some of the world's most compelling and talented scholars and artists.
 
Goucher students are eligible for full scholarships, including airfare! Contact Yona for details.

Learn How to #MakeItHappen
 
Want to improve your Jewish community? Then #MakeItHappen!
 
Founded by Lynn Schusterman, #MakeItHappen is a site where YOU can create and share ideas for creating a Jewish experience that will make a meaningful difference in your community.
 
Between October and December 2013, up to 50 ideas from around the world will be selected to receive a micro grant of up to $1,000. Five ideas could receive up to $5,000.

Learning with Avital
 
Avital Levin, an OU-JLIC Educator, will host a "Dine-and-Discuss" group learning session from
5:30-6:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
 
The session is open to learners of all backgrounds and levels, and will encourage group members to explore various topics in Judaism. Ideas, debates, questions, soapboxes...everything will be welcomed at this group learning session!
 
This semester's running topic is "Relationships: Then and Now."

Speech Ethics with Rabbi Josh

Goucher Hillel is looking to create a community speech guideline. We want to improve the way people communicate in the Hillel space so we can continue to grow as a welcoming community.

Join Rabbi Josh on
Thursdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m. in the Hillel Lounge for study and discussion.

Together we will write guidelines based on our discussions that will be shared publicly at the end of the semester.

J Street U Internship
 
Every summer, J Street U selects a group of college students to intern at Capitol Hill and experience the legislative side of advocacy work. Students chosen will work in the offices of Members of Congress and learn about the inner workings of the House of Representatives and Senate.
 
The Congressional Internship Program is a great opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of the legislative process and to learn about J Street's role in advocating Congressional leadership toward a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Student Board Position Openings
 
**The deadline is TODAY Wednesday, December 4th at 11:59 p.m.**
 
Hillel Student Board has openings for next semester. Positions available are a First Year Chair (must be Class of 2017), Tzedek (Social Justice) Chair, and Pluralism Chair, along with Committee positions for Shabbat, Tzedek, First Year, and Israel committees.
 
If you have been involved in a committee, but did not initially apply at the beginning of the semester, we ask that you send in an application as well.

1. Why are you applying for this position?
2. Tell one initiative you've participated in with Hillel and what you liked about it.
3. Share one significant contribution you'd like to make to Jewish life on campus.

Hanukkah Hangout with Hillel

Come celebrate the last night of Hanukkah on Wednesday, December 4th.  Candle lighting is at 5:30 p.m. (all nights) and the latke filled dinner is from 5-7 p.m.

But the fun doesn't stop there! Hillel is hosting a ninth night of Hanukkah event on Thursday, December 5th. There will be crafts, stories, music, sweets, and games from 5-7 p.m. And at 6 p.m. there will be dreidel fun and a competition (sign up for the competition is at 5:45 p.m.

Join Goucher Builds

**The deadline is THIS Friday, December 6th.**

Volunteer this spring break
(March 15-23, 2014) with Goucher Builds, a volunteer service-learning program inspired by the Jewish duty to pursue justice. In partnership with Habitat for Humanity, participants will explore issues of housing and homelessness in Baltimore City.

The program fee is $250; scholarships are available.

Shabbat is here and with it a chance to collect ourselves and rest. Come stop by Hillel Lounge and chill with us!
 
This week's theme is Toga Shabbat! Come wearing your favorite bed sheet and dine in style! Rabbinical student Ben Shefter will be with us again.
 
Friday, December 6
5 p.m. - Services in Welsh Piano Room
6 p.m. - Shabbat Dinner in Hillel Lounge
Learning session and singing with Ben after dinner in Hillel
 
Saturday, December 7
10 a.m. - Morning services in Hillel with Torah reading
12:30 p.m. - Lunch and learning session. Ben will be around throughout Shabbat for conservation and questions.
 
*We need your help to make sure we have a minyan (prayer quorum). Please come and bring friends. For this particular service, we need 10 Jewish men to make a minyan.
**For this weekend's services, we will have a mechitza (gender divider) as they are in a traditional orthodox style. While this may not be your normal service setup, we encourage you to experience a different way of spiritually connecting.

Fellowship Opportunity with New Israel Fund
 
New Israel Fund/SHATIL Social Justice Fellowships send 6-8 post-college Jewish young adults to spend 10 months immersed in the movement for social change in Israel.
 
Fellows receive a modest stipend and work for a year in Israeli NGO. Additionally, fellows engage in monthly enrichment programs and periodic site visits to further develop their understanding of Israeli activism and their role as activists both in Israel and at home.
 
Successful applicants must have excellent Hebrew language skills, or good Hebrew with strong Arabic skills.

AJC Goldman Fellowship
 
Want to experience a paid, international internship that focuses on diplomacy, policy, intergroup relations, human rights, and non-profit management? Then apply for the AJC Goldman Fellowship today!

Fellows are sent to AJC locations around the world and further their passion for making a difference and looking at domestic and international policy through a Jewish lens.
 
The fellowship runs from June 2nd through August 1st, 2014. Fellows receive a stipend of $3,000 plus major travel expenses.

AVODAH helps young adults combat domestic poverty through a year-long service program, which combines full-time work at non-profit agencies with pluralistic communal Jewish learning and living.
