Please Help to Support Goucher Hillel

Please help Goucher Hillel reach its Annual Campaign Goal of $155,000. To date, we have raised $104,000 (close to 70% of our goal)!

Every bit helps.  If Goucher Hillel has had a positive influence on you or someone close to you, please consider including us in your year-end giving. Please help support our annual campaign to strengthen Jewish life on Goucher's Campus.

One exciting option is to join Goucher Hillel's Board of Directors in the

YAD B' YAD (HAND-IN-HAND) $35,000 CHALLENGE MATCHING GRANT.  The members of our board have generously pledged $35,000 as a dollar for dollar match to help us raise an additional $35,000 toward our Annual Campaign goal for fiscal year 2013. By making a gift of $250 (minimum gift to qualify for a matching donor gift) or more, you have the unique opportunity to do a "double mitzvah" as your dollars are matched by our board members.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I'm interested in Israel.  Enjoy participating in Jewish events, I like foreign food.  I'm from southern Maryland, and I'm an International Relations major.  I actually found out about Goucher from Kate Lawson, a recent alumna, when we were both getting our guide dogs and taking the guiding eyes course in New York.

You're going on Taglit-Birthright Israel with Hillel in less than a week.  What are your feelings about this journey?

They're very positive.  My relatives are so excited for me; they wish they were going on the trip!   It should be interesting and educational.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of it.  I went for the first time with my family in June 2007 and stayed with relatives.  It was the first time I got the full effect of Israel, as it hadn't meant anything to me until I was 16.

What does Hillel mean to you?

Hillel means a space where I can come and network with Jewish students and learn about Judaism.  I also appreciate it as a quiet space where I can relax peacefully.

What are some of your hobbies?

I play flute, love politics, love learning languages, and enjoy classical music.  I also play some xbox.

Young Alumnae/i Events

Goucher Hillel's mission of inspiring Jewish students to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life means being a resource beyond graduation-for example, connecting former students with Jewish community as they move to new places, providing guidance for life-cycle events, and facilitating informal mentoring relationships where there are overlapping professions or interests. When Goucher graduates share with current students some of the varied and vibrant ways there are to live a Jewish life, a funny thing happens: in addition to easing a graduating student's transition into adulthood, the lives of our alumnae/i are also infused with meaning.

Goucher Hillel's young alumnae/i task force, led by Lee Gerstein '07, aims to foster shared, meaningful Jewish experiences and relationships among current Goucher students and recent Goucher graduates. On December 1, 2012, fifteen recent Goucher graduates gathered at the Charles Village home of Abby Becker '10 for drinks, conversation, a Havdalah ritual separating Shabbat from the rest of the week, and a pre-Chanukah oil tasting with oils flavored with herbs from the Farm at the Pearlstone Center (thanks to Ari Witkin '09).

Don't miss the next event! To get involved in upcoming young alumnae/i activities or mentoring, contact Lee.
