Shalom from Goucher College Hillel,

The academic year has started off on the right foot and Hillel has hit the ground running. After a wonderful Hillel board "Meet 'N Greet" during fall orientation, we had a great turn out for Kabbalat Shabbat service and an even bigger turnout for Shabbat dinner, where the matzah ball soup and potato kugel were all the rage. It was great to see the Weinberg Jewish Student Center vibrant and buzzing with excitement again. Hillel was the place to be on Friday night! Our annual Labor Day BBQ event went off without a hitch! Although it poured outside, we still enjoyed our burgers and hot dogs while we played bumper pool, did a trivia game, and listen to music indoors.Hillel headed to Camden Yards to see the Baltimore Orioles take on the Tampa Bay Rays this week and students had an amazing time as the Orioles won on a walk-off doubleWe have many events planned in the near future that are sure to excite the new students as well as the returning ones.  This incoming class has many students interested in becoming active in the organization and we could not be happier and more excited.

Did You Know?

  • Close to 400 students attended Hillel's Opening Events this August/September
  • Six first year students have joined our student board, helping to grow Hillel's leadership and connection to the Goucher Class of 2016.
  • Jewish tradition teaches that a person who saves one life is regarded as having saved the entire world. Goucher Hillel has teamed up with Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation (www.giftoflife.org) to make it easy for members of the Goucher community to be screened as potential matches for people in need of a life-saving bone marrow donation. With a simple cheek swab at our first student-run drive of the semester, thirty-three members of the Goucher community joined the bone marrow donation registry, and we aim to add at least 150 willing donors before the semester's end, representing 10% of the Goucher student body.
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to Goucher Hillel!

We wish you a Shanah Tovah, a sweet and happy new year!
