To conclude the 100th anniversary of Villa Maria Hall, Immaculata University is pleased to establish and present the first Mother M. Camilla Maloney Award.

Mother M. Camilla Maloney served as the Mother General of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  It was Mother Camilla's extraordinary vision and complete trust in the Providence of God to provide what was needed to carry out His will that led her to acquire the land where Immaculata now stands.

The Mother M. Camilla Maloney Award will be presented annually to those who demonstrate leadership and vision to sustain the future of Immaculata through service-including volunteerism, counsel and philanthropic support-to carry on the mission and vision of Mother Camilla.

We are proud to recognize Immaculata's eight past presidents who have sustained this vision and set the course for the Immaculata University we all know today.

Duffy's Cut: Remains of 1832 U.S. Murder Victim Returned to Ireland for Burial

Duffy's Cut is the infamous railroad worksite where nearly 60 Irish laborers were killed in 1832. Some succumbed to an outbreak of cholera, but many of them are believed to have been massacred in a violent attempt to stop the spread of the disease.

Dr. William Watson, professor of history at Immaculata, along with a few other members of the Duffy's Cut team traveled to Ireland recently for a proper funeral and burial of the remains they found of a woman murdered in America 183 years ago. Read more from the article in the Derry Journal, here.

Immaculata Trivia
Did You Know...
During the initial phases of construction of Villa Maria Hall, it was discovered that the area had no water supply. Mother M. Camilla Maloney's response to this news was to gather the congregation of Sisters to pray a novena to the Little Infant of Prague. Before the novena had ended, surveyors of the land discovered two artesian wells on the property.
