Immaculata Women's Basketball Team on the Court at
Madison Square Garden

The New Year started out with headlines for the Mighty Macs women's basketball team. Here are a few of the national and local headlines featuring the Mighty Macs:

New York Times: "A First at the Garden Earns an Encore" and "Game's Present Yields Floor to Its Past Before UConn Defeats St. John's"

Washington Post: "Day of remembrance in NYC for Dixon and Richmond coaches"

Philadelphia Inquirer: "For Immaculata's Smith, a 'surreal' experience"

Daily Local News: "Immaculata Falls at Madison Square Garden"
Bucks County Courier Times: "North Penn grad Gallagher going to a 'Garden party'"

Read all about their game against Queens College that commemorated the 40th anniversary of the first women's collegiate basketball game at Madison Square Garden. (View Video Here) Dr. Maria Alonso '78, a member of the 1975 team, was on-hand to cheer on our Mighty Macs, and was honored at halftime along with members of the 1975 team from Queens. Thank you to all of our fans who attended and cheered on our students!

Congratulations to Immaculata senior guard Sara Smith who became the 22nd player in team history to reach the 1,000 point mark for her career! Sara made the record book during IU's victory against Cedar Crest on January 12. Read More

What Do You Love About Immaculata?

Thank you to everyone who responded to the Immaculata Fund's contest by answering the question, "What do you love most about Immaculata?"  The winner of the contest was student Elisabeth DiAngelis, Class of 2016. Congratulations!

Here are a few responses we received from the contest:

"What I have always loved about Immaculata is its enduring spirit- a spirit that cannot be captured in words. There is a sense of belonging, of always coming home again and yet one of never truly leaving. This spirit is a reflection of the dedicated hearts, lives and vision of the Immaculate Heart of Mary who so gently graced the Hill with their presence."

"The immediate sense of home that I feel when I walk onto the campus, the traditions at Immaculata gives me the perspective that I'm a part of something much bigger than myself. I value the hard-working educators that are honestly some of the nicest people anyone will ever meet. I believe that I have been molded and have further developed through the continued support given by the staff, sisters and students who make Immaculata such a beautiful place."

"What I love most about Immaculata are the classmates I met who became friends and with whom I still keep in touch. We meet, however infrequently, for lunch or parties, or family functions."
