THE BUILDING MANAGEMENT NEWSLETTER

The September 15th Building Manager Training (see 'Hold That Date' in July edition) will offer a tour of the Central Energy Facility (CEF).  Energy Use and Savings on Campus is the theme, and we are fortunate to be able to tour the CEF on September 15th at 9:30 am.  This tour is limited to 50, so please RSVP when you receive the calendar invitation if you wish to attend.  CEF engineers will discuss Stanford's conversion from steam to heating hot water (HHW) across campus and how the system is presently working.  They will also review strategies for adjusting the system to save more energy and in turn, reduce Stanford's carbon footprint.  The tour will take you behind the scenes to show HHW and chilled water (CHW) production and the capacity of the CEF to meet future energy needs of the campus.

The new Work Order form has been live for several months and one feature that sometimes gets overlooked is the ability to upload a photo.  "A photo is worth a thousand words", and having this feature helps BGM understand the task that needs to be done.  Do you have an irrigation leak?  Take a photo so we are able to see the severity.  Have some ceiling tiles that are stained?  Take a photo so we can see what type of tiles need to be ordered.  It takes an extra minute, but in the long run, it will save time as the technician coming out will be more knowledgeable about the problem.

And last, but certainly not least, an announcement about Zone Management staff changes.  Raveena Ulrich, Zone C Administrator, has accepted a position with the Department of Project Management (DPM), starting August 22nd.  Raveena will be a great addition to DPM as Project Coordinator.  I will miss her good humor, her ability to figure out any new software or Stanford financial protocol, and especially, her "can do" attitude.  This newsletter has benefitted greatly by Raveena's steady hand. It was a hard decision for her, but a good one for her future at Stanford.  While I will miss her every day, I am happy that she will still be in the LBRE family.
