Stanford celebrates 125 years of impact in people's lives and for innovations around the world. This web site highlights events and activities in celebration of Stanford's 125th anniversary throughout the year.
Another interesting event takes place on Thursday, May 12, at 3:15 p.m. President John Hennessy will give his annual address to the Academic Council, titled "President Hennessy on the State of the University," followed by a question-and-answer session. The event takes place at Cemex Auditorium in the Knight Management Center.
The 10th Annual Cardinal Walk will be held on May 13th. The Stanford community comes together to walk a 1.25 mile journey around campus. All are invited to take a break and get out there and walk (the 1.25 also marks Stanford's Anniversary). The Cardinal Walk begins at the Stanford Stadium at 11:00 am with pre-walk festivities.
From the Ground Up has a bike theme this month, because Bike to Work Day is May 12th.
"Why Bike To Work?"
- Almost 40 percent of Bay Area commuters live within five miles of their workplace, a distance considered ideal for bicycle commuting.
- If every person living this close to their workplace pedaled to work on Bike to Work Day, more than 60,000 vehicles would be off the road, reducing tailpipe emissions by more than 150,000 pounds.
- Bicycling or walking can save both emissions and expenses.
May I suggest that you ride your bike to meetings on campus now that the weather is warming up. Just remember that helmet, and follow the rules of the road!
Enjoy the green campus this month and celebrate Stanford's 125 years strong!
