St. Thomas School Newsletter - September 3, 2014

Dear St. Thomas Families,

I hope that you and your family had a restful Labor Day break. With our first full week of school behind us, we are diving head first into September!

As a school, we are always looking for ways to recognize the many positive attributes and actions of our students. As parents, we all know that recognizing our children for positive behavior often generates repeat occurrences of a desired behavior. This year we will be focusing on recognizing positive behaviors by implementing Tomcat Cards (TOMorrow's leaders have Christian Attitude Today!). Teachers and staff will have these special cards that can be given to a student who is observed modeling positive interactions or choices. These actions may include, stopping to help someone who has dropped his or her books, or maybe it is stepping forward to take on an important task. Students will deposit the Tomcat Cards they receive into a special container in the office. Every third Wednesday, we will pull a name and that student will be recognized and rewarded for his or her positive action(s) during the month. The selected student will receive a special dress down day in recognition.

In addition to the Tomcat Cards, we will be selecting students monthly at each grade who exemplify the month's "I Can..." virtue. These student's names and pictures will be displayed on the bulletin board in the main school hallway.

This month's as a school we will focus on "I Can Be Respectful". The 7th grade students worked together to decorate the display case in the school entryway to celebrate this theme. Be sure to stop by and check it out the next time you are at school.

Be sure to mark you calendar for the Annual Parish Picnic. The picnic is scheduled for this Sunday, September 7 at Highland Hills ParkThe outdoor Mass will begin at Noon. The picnic will run until 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Don't forget about the 8th grade "Trash to Treasure Yard Sale" on Saturday, September 13. The yard sale will be set up in the Church parking lot. It is a perfect time to pick up some wonderful items for your home.

On Friday, September 19, in recognition of the International Day of Peace, we will hold our Pinwheels for Peace Prayer Service on the plaza. The service will begin at 9:00 a.m. following the Friday School Mass. Each student will create a pinwheel inscribed with a personal prayer for peace. The pinwheels will be displayed in the front of the school for the day.

Have a blessed week.

Barry Thomas

Principal
