St. Thomas School Newsletter - September 10, 2014

Dear St. Thomas Families,
Tomorrow is Patriot Day. This is the day set aside by Congress to remember those individuals who tragically perished on September 11, 2001. In 2009 a presidential proclamation called for a National Day of Service, calling on Americans to take part in community service to honor those lost. To recognize this day as a school, we will have a special prayer and a moment of silence during tomorrow's morning announcements. Please join us in praying for peace.
St. Thomas is moving forward with the next phase of the Global Education Initiative. This program will provide our children an opportunity for first hand experiences with people from other countries and cultures teaching them to investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action. We formed a committee to tackle the planning and logistics. The committee has decided to work with the International School to School Exchange (ISSE) because of the organization's well established program and experience. Our goal this spring is to serve as a host school for a visiting delegation of students. To that end, the Global Education Committee is looking for families willing to open their homes and host a 5th or 6th grade student. The duration of the hosting will be approximately two weeks. Be sure to look at the insert in this Wednesday's folder for more information. You can learn more about ISSE on their website at www.isseonline.com
In order to set up for Saturday's "8th Grade Trash to Treasure Yard Sale", the upper school parking lot will be closed on Friday, September 12. Please make alternate arrangements for drop off and pick up of your student(s). Also, if you will be attending 8:15 morning mass, please park on the street or lower lot. Our plans are to leave the row of spaces parallel to the church open for senior parishioners attending the 8:15 a.m. morning mass.
It's not too late to send in your family's summer vacation photos. We are displaying these photos in the front school lobby through the month of September. Send in your photos and share the fun memories from the summer! If you have a 3x5 or 4x5 printed photo to share, please drop it off to Mrs. Hug in the office.
Have a blessed week.
