St. Thomas School Newsletter - September 17, 2014
|
|
Dear St. Thomas Families,
It is difficult to believe that we have been in school for a month. Students have settled into their classroom, homework, and afterschool routines. As the cooler days and nights continue, fall must be close around the corner. Though summer may be quickly fading, it's not too late to send in your family's summer vacation photos. We are displaying these photos in the front school lobby through the end of the month. Be sure to send in your photos and share your fun summer family memories. Just drop off or send in a 3x5 or 4x5 printed photo to Mrs. Hug in the office.
In last week's newsletter and Wednesday folder, you received information about the The Global Education Program we are starting at at St Thomas. We are looking for families to serve as hosts for visiting students. Significant lead time is required to allow for the partnering of schools as well as for families to prepare their students to visit the US by springtime. In order to move to the next step of the process of matching St. Thomas with a school who would like to send students, we must be able to have the capability and interest to host 6-8 students. We have just two families to date who have expressed interest in serving as a pst family. An email indicating interest is all that's required at this point. Please contact Emily Kreutzjans at EmilyKreutzjans@gmail.com by this Friday, Sept 19th. Join us in creating an opportunity of a lifetime for a student to visit St. Thomas School and experience Greater Cincinnati/Ft. Thomas, KY, USA.
St. Thomas teachers and staff are always on the lookout for positive things that our students are doing. This year, teachers and staff are carrying Tomcat cards (TOMorrow's leaders have Christian Attitude Today!). These special cards can be given to a student who is observed modeling positive interactions or choices. It may be as simple as lending a helping hand to someone who has dropped his or her books, or stepping forward to take on an important task. Over the last month, students deposited the Tomcat cards they received into a special container in the office. The Tomcat whose name was drawn today is Caroline Eaglin. Caroline will receive a special dress down day to be coordinated with her teacher.
Following is a list of other Tomcats who received cards for demonstrating strong Christian Attitudes this month. Keep up the great work!

This Friday, September 19, the school will conduct a test of the emergency communications phone system. This system is used to communicate important information such as school closings. At 5:00pm a test message will be sent to all school families. The system will use the phone number(s) you have on file with the school. If your contact information has changed from last year, please be sure to call Mrs. Hug in the school office with your new contact information. Please inform the school following Friday's test if you do not receive a message.
Also this Friday, September 19, is our Pinwheels for Peace prayer service immediately following the all-school Mass. The students have been hard at work creating their individual pinwheel for the prayer service. Each child's pinwheel will have a personal prayer for peace written on the inside. All students' pinwheels will be displayed in the front of school for the day. We hope you can join us on the school plaza for this very special prayer service.

Most High, Glorious God, enlighten the darkness of our minds. Give us a right faith, a firm hope, and a perfect charity, so that we may always and in all things act according to Your Holy Will.
