St. Thomas School Newsletter - September 24, 2014
|
|
Dear St. Thomas Families,
Happy Fall! Cool nights, Sunday football, and hot apple cider are upon us. I hope that you have all been enjoying this truly beautiful weather.
Last Friday we held the Pinwheels for Peace prayer service immediately following the all-school Mass. We couldn't have asked for better weather for our prayer service. It was so exciting to see the children's Pinwheels displayed in the front of school. As noted earlier, every student wrote personal prayers for peace on his or her pinwheel. Please join me in extending a very special "Thank You" to our eighth grade students for their leadership and significant participation during the prayer service.
As mentioned in last Wednesday's newsletter, we had intended to send out a test message using our automated emergency communications phone system. Due to a technical issue we were unable to conduct this test. We believe the issue is now resolved and will send out the test message this Friday, September 26. Please contact the school if you do not receive a message. This will provide us feedback to fine-tune our emergency contact phone database. If your contact information has changed from last year, please be sure to call Mrs. Hug in the school office with your new contact information before Friday.
Mark you calendars for the 10th annual diocesan Eucharistic youth retreat - Youth 2000. The program includes daily mass, Eucharistic adoration, prayer, live music and good food. Youth 2000 is open to Catholics ages 13-30. The program will take place on October 10-12, at Villa Madonna Academy. For more information click here or visit the website at www.nkyouth.com
"Each of Us is a Masterpiece of God's Creation!" That is the heading on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) webpage announcing October as Respect Life Month. The USCCB website also has a link to a beautifully written statement by Cardinal O'Malley announcing Respect Life Month. In the statement, Cardinal O'Malley writes about the need to respect all life as sacred.
We must ask the Lord for the grace to see ourselves and others as he sees us-as masterpieces of his creation. When God created each of us, he did so with precision and purpose, and he looks on each of us with love that cannot be outdone in intensity or tenderness. We must look at ourselves and at others in light of this truth and treat all people with the reverence and respect which is due.
You can read the complete text of Cardinal O'Malley's statement by clicking here.
In our diocese, the Bishop will celebrate a special Pro-Life Mass at the Cathedral on Wednesday, October 1, at 7:00pm. All are invited. The rosary will be prayed beginning at 6:15pm. There will be a reception at the Covington Latin School following Mass
Have a blessed week.

  St. Thomas Walk-a-thon 2014
It's time for the 2014 St. Thomas Walk-a-thon to get underway!
It is scheduled for Thursday, October 23.
For those families familiar with the process, challenge yourself to add five(5) more addresses to your label list. For new families and old, don't forget to include those with whom you do business - doctors, dentists, dance studios , etc, are all great sources for donors. With everyone's help we can make this the most successful Walk-a-thon yet!
For information contact Andrea Bunch at armojo@twc.com or
(859) 442-0284 or Carolyn Bruns at carolyn.bruns@fuse.net

Turkey Festival - November 22
Please mark your calendars for the Turkey Festival on Saturday, November 22. Dinner will be served in the cafeteria from 4-8pm. The festival will be in the gym from 5:00-10:30pm.
This is a fun event and a very important fundraiser for the parish. Please plan on attending and help spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. We are currently seeking donations for the Silent Auction. We are looking for exciting items that will generate interest and revenue. It could be as simple as a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, tickets to a sporting or cultural event, or the use of your out of town condo for a weekend.
For Silent Auction donations, please contact Elmer Grosser (sttfundraiser@gmail.com, 513-313-9961).
We are also seeking festival sponsors - opportunities from $50 - $1,000 are available. Please contact Jim McMahon at (jimmcmahon86@hotmail.com, 513-476-2176) if you are interested in sponsoring the festival or know of a business that might be interested.
The Boosters support the school's athletic programs and facilities as well as educational initiatives. This is the Boosters' largest fundraiser of the year and we appreciate your support!
