Next Thursday, October 23, is our Annual Walk-a-thon. We have been truly blessed with a group of dedicated volunteers working diligently behind the scenes each day to make this event come alive. Please join me in extending a heartfelt "Thank You" to these volunteers for their countless hours, enthusiasm and dedication. A portion of the funds raised this year will go to the purchase of a classroom set of iPads for our students.
It truly takes a village to raise a child. We couldn't provide the many rich experiences for our children without the ongoing dedication of our parent volunteers. These volunteers put in countless hours with the sports program, preparation for the annual Walk-a-thon, Market Day, Foresters, Cafeteria, office and classroom help, and safely shepherding our children as they cross the street in the mornings, to name just a few. In addition, our Boosters Club and Mothers' Club give generously of their time to coordinate many more activities and fund raisers. Please join me in extending a sincere "Thank You" to all of these individuals. If you haven't yet joined one of these groups, please consider doing so. The rewards are many and all of the children greatly benefit!
Have a blessed week.

St. Vincent DePaul Holiday Food Drive
This week begins our collection of canned and nonperishable foods to help stock our pantry shelves for the holiday season.
Each classroom will receive two or three grocery bags with lists of needed items attached. The students will be asked to collect the items and assemble the bags which will be taken to our pantry.
Older students will be asked to help carry the bags to the pantry and they will have the opportunity to see how St. Vincent DePaul helps those in need in our community.
Please be as generous as possible with your donations.

Sixth Grade "I Can" Service Project
The 6th graders at St. Thomas are learning that by working together they can make a difference in the lives of a local family while also helping the environment. In science class, the 6th grade was learning about natural resources, conservation and ecosystems, when they learned that the Child Development Playcare, a daycare at St. Thomas, is collecting pop cans to help the family of an employee whose first grandson is in the hospital. Sue Schwab's grandson Hunter Hill, son of Kelsey and Brian, was born 3 months early. Since his birth he has experienced breathing and respiratory problems. He also has some hemorrhaging and may have to have surgery to correct that. The earliest he will be home is November 15th. The students thought, what a great way to help a family in need and save resources by recycling the pop cans. They will have big containers for empty cans at the St. Thomas plaza entrance and the cafeteria doors during morning drop off. You can bring in empty cans, drop them in the collection bins and the students will deliver them to be recycled. It starts on October 13th, and ends the 31st of October. This is a great way for the students to apply what they are learning in science and religion classes and to live out the school theme of the year, "I CAN".

 Turkey Festival - November 22
Please mark your calendars for the Turkey Festival on Saturday, November 22. Dinner will be served in the cafeteria from 4-8pm. The festival will be in the gym from 5:00-10:30pm.
This is a fun event and a very important fundraiser for the parish. Please plan on attending and help spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. We are currently seeking donations for the Silent Auction. We are looking for exciting items that will generate interest and revenue. It could be as simple as a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, tickets to a sporting or cultural event, or the use of your out of town condo for a weekend.
For Silent Auction donations, please contact Elmer Grosser (sttfundraiser@gmail.com, 513-313-9961).
We are also seeking festival sponsors - opportunities from $50 - $1,000 are available. Please contact Jim McMahon at (jimmcmahon86@hotmail.com, 513-476-2176) if you are interested in sponsoring the festival or know of a business that might be interested.
The Boosters support the school's athletic programs and facilities as well as educational initiatives. This is the Boosters' largest fundraiser of the year and we appreciate your support!
