St. Thomas School Newsletter - October 22, 2014
|
|
Dear St. Thomas Families,
Tomorrow is our Annual Walk-a-thon. The focus for this year's Walk-a-thon fundraising is for the purchase of a classroom set of iPads for our students. St. Thomas School is known for high quality education and strong religious formation in the Ft. Thomas community. With your help and commitment, we will expand on this legacy, providing our students with quality technology tools to enhance their learning and exploration across the curriculum. Please join me in thanking the many parent volunteers who have worked countless hours behind the scenes to bring this Walk-a-thon to life!
Following are a few items of note for tomorrow's Walk-a-thon.
- School begins at the regular 8:00 a.m. time. The students begin walking at 11:00 a.m.
- Walk-a-thon T-shirts will be distributed in the homerooms on Thursday morning. Students will wear T-shirts over their existing shirt.
- Lunch will be provided after the students finish their walk. Students are asked to bring a drink in a screw top container with their name clearly marked on the bottle (no carbonated beverages please).
- This is an out-of-uniform day. Students should dress comfortably and wear gym shoes. The current weather forecast is calling for mostly sunny with a high of 61 degrees.
Let's make this the best walk-a-thon ever!
Don't forget about Family Fun Night at Barnes and Noble at Newport on the Levee this Friday, October 24, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Several of our teachers will be reading stories. Samples of our students' exceptional art work will be on display and Mr. Pearcy will lead our students in a special performance of Halloween songs. Students are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. Last year our school received a $500 gift card for the purchase of new books for our school library. Join us and show your school spirit. We hope to see you there!
Please note the following change to the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences. Due to the November 4 elections, the conference day for Tuesday, November 4, has been moved to Thursday, November 6. The conference times remain unchanged. Please make a note of this new Parent/Teacher Conference date and time:

St. Vincent DePaul Holiday Food Drive
Thank you very much to everyone for contributing to our St. Vincent DePaul holiday food drive. Over 32 bags of holiday food were collected. The holidays can be an especially tough time for families in need and they will be so grateful to receive a special bag of Thanksgiving food.
Thanks also to our fourth and sixth graders for helping to carry all the bags to the pantry. They were able to tour the pantry and learn a little bit about the families helped by St. Vincent DePaul. Their holiday tables will be fuller thanks to your generosity!

 Turkey Festival - November 22
Please mark your calendars for the Turkey Festival on Saturday, November 22. Dinner will be served in the cafeteria from 4-8pm. The festival will be in the gym from 5:00-10:30pm.
This is a fun event and a very important fundraiser for the parish. Please plan on attending and help spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. We are currently seeking donations for the Silent Auction. We are looking for exciting items that will generate interest and revenue. It could be as simple as a gift certificate to a favorite restaurant, tickets to a sporting or cultural event, or the use of your out of town condo for a weekend.
For Silent Auction donations, please contact Elmer Grosser (sttfundraiser@gmail.com, 513-313-9961).
We are also seeking festival sponsors - opportunities from $50 - $1,000 are available. Please contact Jim McMahon at (jimmcmahon86@hotmail.com, 513-476-2176) if you are interested in sponsoring the festival or know of a business that might be interested.
The Boosters support the school's athletic programs and facilities as well as educational initiatives. This is the Boosters' largest fundraiser of the year and we appreciate your support!
