St. Thomas School Newsletter - November 12, 2014

Dear St. Thomas Families,

It was around this time last year, that St. Thomas school hosted a speaker, at the Mothers' Club meeting.  Bob Herring, Principal of Nativity School highlighted the benefits of a Global Education program. Nativity School has successfully participated in a Global school initiative for over three decades.  A St. Thomas committee was established consisting of a Board of Education member, a parent representative, and a Jr.High teacher to develop and promote this idea.  As mentioned in a previous newsletter, we have been working with ISSE (International School to School Exchange) to identify an international school as a partner to visit our school and stay with our families.

I am excited to announce that we have recently completed the exchange arrangements for Jefferson School Salinas, a bilingual school in Ecuador. St. Thomas School will host eight students and a chaperone for a two-week period from March 14-28, 2015.  The committee will be working in earnest over the next several months with representatives from Jefferson School to develop a cultural program. Please know it is not too late to express your interest in serving as a host family for one of our visiting students. Hosting a student is as simple as making them a member of your family to experience "family life" in the United States.  If you are interested, please contact Emily Kreutzjans at emilykreutzjans@gmail.com. You can learn more about Jefferson School, Salinas by visiting their website at www.jefferson.edu.ec .

Our teachers and staff continue to identify and personally recognize the many wonderful actions our students do each and every day. The theme for the month of October was "I Can Live My Faith". The following students were selected as the Student of the Month for demonstrating their faith throughout the month of October.  Congratulations and blessings to each of these students!

These students' photos and a small write-up by their teachers are posted on the bulletin board in the main school hallway. Please take the opportunity to stop by and read these acts of faith, the next time you are at the school.  Continue to encourage your children to stretch themselves in demonstrating these important virtues.  November's theme is all about showing thankfulness!

Have a blessed week.
