St. Thomas School Newsletter - January 14, 2015

Dear St. Thomas Families,

At the end of January we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. We will kick off the week with a special Mass and Open House. This is an opportunity for the school to showcase the many wonderful things we do as a school and a school community.

We are in need of parents (and students) to help lead tours of our greatschool. Parent engagement is one of the things that impress people about our school. It can really help a prospective parent make a rather tough decision of which school to choose when a current parent and/or student guide talks about why he/she chose St. Thomas School. We will match an adult guide with a student guide so prospective families get a complete picture of the school. We ask that guides be here by 11:20am. The Open House lasts until 1:30pm, but if you can only stay for an hour or so that is OK, too. Let the school office know if you can help out. Contributions of finger foods are also needed. These should be brought to the cafeteria on Sunday, January 25, between 10:00am and 11:15am.

Additionally, if you know a prospective family, neighbor, family member, etc. (who would not be on the parish mailing list), please email their name/info to Emily Kreutzjans at emma12@zoomtown.com or 859-250-1733 so we can send them a personal invitation. Thank you in advance for making our Open House a success!

Second quarter report cards will be going home this Friday, January 16. To receive a report card, it is important that you are up-to-date with tuition payments. If you have any questions regarding your tuition, please contact Judy Osburg in the Rectory office at josbu@sttschool.org or call 859-441-1282

This year's National Geographic Bee will be held this Thursday, January 15, at 2:00pm in the Activity Center. All are welcome to attend. The following students will be competing:

8th Grade: Gabriel Powell, Samuel Reynolds, Grant Hemmer

7th Grade: Lauren Caudill, Nathan DeBurger, Matthew Wimmers

6th Grade: Abbey Dietz, Dominic Martin

5th Grade: Jordan Frisk, Evan McSorley

Have a blessed week.

Library News

It's almost time for our Scholastic Book Fair. The fair will run from Sunday, January 25 through Wednesday, January 28. The theme for this year's fair is Under the Sea!

Please support our school library by purchasing a book for your child. You will also have the opportunity to purchase a book for your child's classroom. Just look for the Teacher Wish List display.

Access our book fair homepage here:

http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/stthomastomcats

In conjunction with the fair we are participating in the All for Books Program. We are collecting money to purchase books from the fair for our students and classroom libraries. For every dollar collected at St. Thomas, Scholastic Book Fairs will donate a book to the Kids in Need Foundation or Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. This is a win/win situation. We will be able to purchase books for our students while helping children in need.

In your folder today you will find a note explaining the program along with a small baggie for your donations. We appreciate any donation you can make to benefit readers here at St. Thomas and elsewhere. Please return your donations by next Wednesday, January 21.

Check out next week's folder for a colorful book fair brochure.

Hope to see you the fair!
