FRESHMAN TIPS
Keeping yourself safe

* Program emergency numbers and campus security (507-389-2111) into your phone.

* Avoid walking alone especially at night. To request a SAFE WALK call University Security at 507-389-2111.

* Always walk on the busiest, most well-lit, and most traveled streets.

* Be careful when posting Facebook status updates that give people information about your whereabouts.

* Be smart about being stupid

* Avoid walking on campus while wearing earphones in both ears.

* Take a self-defense class.

* Always follow your instincts. If something feels wrong, it is wrong.

PARENTS CORNER
Help keep your student safe on campus.

* Ask questions about campus security.

Take note on how your inquiries are handled.

* Encourage good boundary setting. As they learn it's okay to set boundaries, they will get better at it and develop great independent living skills.

* Empower your child to be his/her own best protector. While at college, young people need to become self-reliant in the case that a bad or violent situation arises.

Interview with the Homecoming Competition Chair
By Haley Severson
CSU Public Relations Intern

This week I had the opportunity to interview the 2016 Homecoming Competition Chair, Farhan Chowdhury. He is a junior here at Minnesota State University, Mankato and is majoring in Information Systems.

What made you want to be the Homecoming Competition Chair? "First of all, I am international. I wanted to learn more about the American culture and homecoming is one of the biggest events for students in America. Being on the Student Events Team gave me an opportunity as its homecoming chair to learn more about it" said Chowdhury.

What is the biggest challenge you have faced by hosting such a huge event? Chowdhury explained, "The biggest challenge was organizing all of the different events at the same time. It is hard to keep track of all of them, but my team members made my life much easier."

What is the best thing you have gotten out of being the homecoming competition chair? "I have gotten to work with an awesome team who has always been there to help me, they became my second family. I have an awesome advisor who has helped me with all of the events that will be taking place" said Chowdhury.

What are you most excited for homecoming week? "Mavs Got Talent and homecoming royalty! Mavs Got Talent will be a lot like America's Got Talent, this event will help make students more confident in their talents. Also, on behalf of my whole team, I would like to invite all of the students to participate in all of the homecoming events."

Below are a list of homecoming events. Have a fun and safe homecoming. May the best team win!
