How to stay healthy on your own
By Haley Severson
CSU Public Relations Intern

Moving to college on your own is tough. Especially when you have never cooked a day in your life. Luckily freshman have the option to choose different meal plans on campus. The cafeteria is great and all, but after a semester of just eating the cafeteria food, I was very happy I chose the meal plan that allowed me to convert my meals to flex dollars for extra meal options around campus. For me, I was lucky and didn't gain the freshman 15, however, your body is constantly changing. Being healthy is important so you keep away from the sophomore, junior, and senior 15.

Many students worry about the freshman 15, but here are some helpful tips to stay healthy throughout college.
  1. Eat breakfast
  2. Avoid excessive carbs and salt
  3. Don't eat past 8 p.m.
  4. Exercise beyond climbing the stairs to your dorm room
  5. Drink a lot of water
  6. Eat six little meals throughout the day speed up your metabolism
  7. Eat slow so you don't over eat
All students will learn what works best for them through trial and error. You can always reach out to your friends and the campus dietitian for some help. Some students won't gain any weight in college and some students bodies will completely change, which is just a part of growing up. The goal is to find healthy habits that work best for you, your body and lifestyle.
