Eighth Grade Washington D.C. Trip
By: Mrs. Sonnenburg
SCCS historically takes the eighth graders to Washington, D. C. after school is out in June. The students' grades have been recorded, eighth grade is over, and it is summer! This year SCCS made the discerning decision to move the "D.C." trip from June to September, and on September 13th, twenty-one eighth graders and sixteen chaperones embarked on a six day historic America tour of the East Coast. Simply calling this trip the "D.C." trip is a huge understatement. We explored from Virginia to Pennsylvania and everywhere in between. The trip was nonstop fun as well as nonstop educational.

As soon as we landed in Richmond, Virginia, we hopped on the bus and headed to Williamsburg to enjoy a delicious turkey dinner at the King's Tavern where George Washington met, ate, and conspired against the British control of the colonies. Click to read more.

Sixth Grade Science Camp @ Camp Ironwood
By: Ms. Walter

To kick off their last year of elementary school, the sixth graders left for Camp Ironwood from September 30 - October 2. During the days at science camp, students enjoyed a wide range of activities, as well as learned about God through His nature and His Word.

"The most valuable thing about science camp was chapel with Mr. Miller," said sixth grader Kimmy Kate Lehan. "We learned more about Colossians, the book we are memorizing at school."

The students were challenged in their time with Mr. Landon Miller through the book of Colossians. They learned about what it means to "walk in a manner worthy of the Lord" (Colossians 1:10) and how to live honestly by having their actions match their words. The students also participated in cabin discussion groups every evening and Bible studies each morning. Click to read more about sixth grade science camp, Camp Ironwood.

Getting to Know Mervatte Gunther
SCCS College Counselor

My name is Mervatte Gunther and this is my 6th year working at SCCS as the College Counselor.
I was born in Alexandria, Egypt, and lived there until the age of 12. Then, to escape religious persecution, my parents decided to take
The Gunther Family
their five children and immigrate to the United States. They hoped this would allow their children to experience all the opportunities that come with the freedom enjoyed in America.

Having to learn a new language, make new friends, and get acquainted with a culture that I was not a part of was very difficult.  I can still remember wishing I would come down with a serious illness just so I didn't have to go to school. Click to learn more about Mervatte Gunther.
