SCCS Spelling Bee
by Mrs. Kistler
God communicates to us through His Word and also gives us the ability to speak His truth to others in the same manner. It is because of this that we emphasize the importance of good writing and spelling habits at SCCS. We are very proud to announce that we will have twelve elementary students representing our school at the ACSI Southern California District Spelling Bee on January 25, 2013.
The event will take place at Trinity Classical Academy, where ten Christian schools from around the area will participate in the competition. There are four main goals in this event:
- to assist students in good spelling habits
- to expand the students' ability to express themselves in all areas of communication
- to develop within the students the accurate usage of words and vocabulary by encouraging proper communication
- to provide an opportunity to fellowship with students from other Christian schools (ACSI Coordinator Handbook, 2013)

SCCS Boys and Girls Varsity Soccer by Bob Dickson
The boys and girls varsity soccer teams have entered the league portion of their schedule. It's the time of year when players and coaches hope the hard work of the fall translates into post-season success.
This year, with the section playoffs a month away, the girls team finds itself in a strong position to make a run. The boys team, which has fallen on hard times after posting a successful 2011-2012 campaign, is looking to right the ship for 2013 and build for the future. Click here to read more.

NexusOn January 22, SCCS began its fourth annual NEXUS week. NEXUS (which means, "the focus" or "center") began when several members of the faculty
andadministration developed a plan to set aside an entire week for the secondary grades to focus on a Biblical theme. Each day the students leave class, enjoy a time of food andfellowship, then walk over to the Lutheran church next door for worship and the day's message.
In past years NEXUS speakers have come from across the country or just across the valley. This year's speaker is Pastor John Richard (click here to view Pastor Richard's bio), a local youth pastor who has spoken in SCCS chapels regularly for the past several years. The topic he'll address during NEXUS week is, "Don't Waste Your Life." The theme has been popularized in recent books and music, but has been a challenge to believers since the time of Christ. "Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we donot lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." (Galatians 6:9-10)
"As we have opportunity, let us do good to all" is an excellent way to describe the motive and purpose that began and continues to drive the Parent Teacher Fellowship of Santa Clarita Christian School.
While SCCS has undergone many changes and progress in the 30 years since its establishment, one of the constants of this institution has been the volunteer group referred to as the PTF. Click here to read more.

Character Trait for the Month of February: Determination Our character trait for February is determination. A person with determination has made up his mind, is resolved, and unwilling to let anything stand in the way of achieving or acquiring the goal. When we first meet the prophet Daniel, we see the unique characteristic of determination evidenced in one who is barely a teenager. How rare; how wonderful; how encouraging it is to find one whose heart is fixed, in fact determined to do the right things. So, what are these "right things"? "Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself." - Daniel 1:8 (NASB) Click here to read more.
