Varsity Volleyball Leaves It All on the Court - by Bob Dickson
SANTA MARIA, CALIF. - There were tears after the SCCS varsity volleyball team's final match - a 3-1 loss to Coastal Christian on Nov. 10. Playoff losses tend to do that - especially to seniors. However, they weren't tears of regret. They weren't the tears of a team that bowed out without a fight.
The Cardinals' performance in Game 2 made sure of that.
SCCS (13-13) faced a challenge from the outset. Across the net were the Conquerors (28-1), a senior-laden Division 5AA powerhouse, playing in their home gym at Valley Christian Academy. The Coast Valley League champions were polished and taller and included 5-feet-11-inch senior middle blocker Leslie Henry and her team-leading 326 kills. Click here to read more.

Operation Christmas Child 2012
During the week of November 5, California Scholarship Foundation (CSF) members organized a school-wide collection of items for underprivileged children during its annual event for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse.
SCCS students were asked to bring to school personal hygiene products, school supplies, toys, candy and socks along with personal notes and donations in an effort to impact a life through the power of a simple gift.
On Saturday, November 10, CSF students gathered to sort and pack 87 individual shoe boxes to be delivered to needy children in other countries. CSF partnered with Heart of the Canyons Church who donated the boxes and helped pay for shipping of the boxes. Click here to read more.

Character Trait for the Month of December: Courtesy
Our character trait for the month of December is courtesy. In comparison to the other traits, this will likely be the easiest to notice among our student body. Not only does it speak to one's heart attitude toward others, but it more specifically refers to how one treats other people with genuine respect and kindness. Courtesy, in much of today's culture is a lost art. We don't practice the same social graces we once did. However, this is all the more reason to consider how we might live in demonstration of our high regard for every person as being image-bearers of the Almighty. Let's take a look at the why and how of this month's character trait - courtesy. Click here to read more.
