In each issue of Alumni News we will strive to bring you updates about your classmates.  Please send yours to alumni@ung.edu to be included.

1960s
COL (Ret), `64, passed away on January 7, 2014.  He was a member of the Special Forces Association, the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association and the North Georgia Corps of Cadets Association.  In 2013, Peavy committed the largest private gift in the university's history in support of the Corps of Cadets.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS UPDATE
UNG has two active alumni associations, the Gainesville State College Alumni Association and the North Georgia College and State University Alumni Association, Inc.  Each association is managed by an Alumni Council consisting of from fifteen to twenty elected council members and from two to four ex-officio members. In the fall of 2013 the two alumni councils voted to create a steering committee for the purpose of creating a new UNG alumni organization.  Read more...
YOUNG ALUMNI BOARD UPDATE
The inaugural 31-member strong UNG Young Alumni Board, led by Alumni Relations Officer Sarah Dunlap, was chosen in July 2013 and held their first board meeting in September on the Dahlonega Campus.  All board members are graduates who received their degrees(s) in the last 10 years from UNG, GSC, or NGCSU and represent a variety of backgrounds.  The board is broken into five committees:  Events, Foundations, Campus & Student Relations, Outreach & Marketing, and Bylaws Ad Hoc.  the board as a whole meets in-person twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, and as a committee they meet via conference calls and meetings on a regular basis.

YOUNG ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Each quarter the Young Alumni Board's Marketing and Outreach committee will interview and highlight a graduate of the last ten years.  In this issue, Dr. Mark Causey, `06 answers questions about his experience at UNG.

The UNG Scholarship Fund and The UNG Annual Fund
What are they and why should I care?
The hodgepodge of terms that make up the language of higher education philanthropy can be confusing.  In each issue of the Alumni News we will attempt to isolate and explain many of the terms you read and hear, plus provide examples of how your donations are used. 
In this issue we provide examples of how the UNG Scholarship Fund benefitted single mother and how the UNG Annual Fund is utilized by the Corps of Cadets and the Honors Program.
ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
Spencer Boyd, `60, Galina Dimitrova Courson, `01, Paul Stringer, `52, & Katie Williamson, `06 will be inducted in this year's UNG Athletics Hall of Fame during luncheon ceremonies on February 15, 2014.  Read more...
SHARED INTEREST GROUPS
The focus of alumni relations and engagement has changed.  In the past, colleges and universities engaged alumni primarily through their respective graduating class year and with events (e.g., reunions).  While many classes continue to maintain their identity, opportunities for affinity for one's college/department cohort, profession, Greek organizations, sport or other cause have led to groups organizing to promote those common bonds, experiences, or affinities.  Read more...
UNG AUTO LICENSE PLATES
The UNG prestige plate is on sale at the State DMV site. UNG TagUse THIS LINK for more information.  The university has reserved the following number combinations:  UNG 011 through UNG 100 and will soon auction off these positions to the highest bidder.  Stay tuned for information on how you can obtain one of these combinations.  Proceeds from the auction will benefit the UNG Annual Fund.  Renewal fees will benefit the UNG Scholarship Fund.
