Indigenous Culture Competency Training for Ontario Healthcare Professionals
AOHC is pleased to offer endorsement for the Indigenous Culture Competency Training for Ontario Healthcare Professionals (ICC).
The ICC Training is a unique facilitated online training course that is designed to increase knowledge, enhance self-awareness and develop skills in order to achieve a culturally-safe health care system for Ontario's Aboriginal Communities. The ICC provides a modular course that seeks to give healthcare professionals a foundation to understand: Indigenous worldview and traditional practices, the impact that colonial history has had on Indigenous health and the effect of their own personal biases. The goal of this training is to improve: relationships amongst Indigenous patients and healthcare providers, the Indigenous patient experience, access to and overall quality of care and connections to primary care and community supports.
This training is available for free until March 2015.

Law passes to improve fairness for workers
Bill 18, The Stronger Workplace for a Stronger Economy Act, 2014, was recently adopted at Queen's Park. It introduces changes that will help curb wage theft, better protect temporary workers and peg the minimum wage to annual increases in the cost of living. According to the Workers Action Centre there is still a long way to go to ensure that Ontario's employment laws reflect the reality of today's workplaces and that all workers are protected, but the passage of Bill 18 shows that advocacy and public input makes a real difference.
