Ontario's New Poverty Reduction Strategy - Steps in the right direction but no firm targets or timelines
   
The Association of Ontario Health Centres (AOHC) welcomes the government's continued commitment to tackle poverty with the focus on health benefits and ending homelessness in Ontario's Poverty Reduction Strategy, 2014-2019. However, the plan fails to include specific targets and timelines with an implementation plan.

Email your MP before September 16 to vote against Bill C585

 

Federal Bill C585, if passed, would allow provinces to restrict access to social assistance for refugee claimants. Refugees could lose their only source of income, until they meet a minimum residency requirement. Please email your MP before September 16th urging him/her to vote against this bill.

Build a Peer to Peer Quality Improvement Learning Community

 

The Quality Improvement working group are working to gain a better understanding of your quality journey and your quality improvement experiences.  The Quality Improvement learning needs survey will inform the Provincial Performance Management Committee and contribute to making the Annual Professional Quality Improvement Event (November 18-19, Toronto) as useful and relevant as possible.

 

If you are a Quality Improvement lead or involved in QI at your centre, a link to a short 12 question QI Learning Survey will be forwarded to you shortly. Your feedback is needed and appreciated.  

New breastfeeding community grants

 

In October, the Best Start Resource Centre will accept proposals to award grants to not-for profit organizations for projects to help support populations with lower rates of breastfeeding in Ontario.

The need to take action was highlighted recently in the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) Ontario composite report: How are Ontarians Really doing?
