Ontario Poverty Reduction Strategy to be released in September

Ontario's Poverty Reduction Strategy is slated to be released during the first two weeks of September. The strategy continues to fall under the purview of Minister Matthews; which signals a commitment from the province in reducing poverty.

Working with the 25-in-5 Network, Campaign 2000 and several other partners, AOHC is looking at opportunities for keeping poverty on the political radar and pushing the strategy forward.

Due to the timing of Community Health & Wellbeing Week (CHWW) and the fact that some key findings of the CIW Ontario Composite report showed a growing income gap, volatility in long-term employment, lower job quality and an increased risk of being economically insecure, CHWW is an opportunity to keep this conversation going.

Below are some recent news postings related to the need for a poverty reduction strategy.

Community Health & Wellbeing Week information series

On September 3rd we will be launching our CHWW information series that focuses on how our member centers are addressing the need to improve factors affecting health and wellbeing identified in the CIW's Ontario composite report: How are Ontarians Really doing? [external link]:  One goal of the series is to spotlight how AOHC member centres are improving Community Health and Wellbeing by working upstream addressing the broad determinants of health.  The series is also intended to draw people to the CHWW website [external link] and the events listing page.

Please feel free to use these stories as a template to tell the story of how your centre is working upstream to promote community health and wellbeing, especially with respect Leisure and Culture, the Environment, Democratic Engagement and Living Standards.  These are the quality of life domains the CIW has flagged as needing improvement here in Ontario.
