Time for federal leadership on healthcare

Canada's 2004-2014 Health Accord expires March 31, 2014. This will result in cuts of $36 billion to health transfers over the next 10 years with the risk of fragmentation of services and the end of national standards. A renewed 10-year Health Accord is essential to achieve improved quality and national standards for healthcare across Canada. The federal government continues to refuse to sit down with Canada's provinces and territories to discuss future funding and planning of health care. Here are two actions you can take:
  • The Canadian Association of Community Health Centres has initiated a petition urging Prime Minister Stephen Harper  to negotiate a renewed 10-year Health Accord with the provinces and territories. Sign the petition
  • The Canadian Health Coalition is encouraging supporters to organize actions in your community on March 31st - National Day of Action for a new Health Accord.  E.g. holding a rally, distributing pamphlets, organizing a public forum, sending a letter to local paper, tweeting. More details

WellFort bringing Change Day to Ontario

On Monday, March 3rd, WellFort Community Health Services is bringing Change Day to Ontario. Change Day is a front line led movement that aims to improve health care through social media by inspiring front-line workers to make a pledge towards a change they can make to improve care for the people they serve. Change can take on a number of forms; keeping people in centres safe, improving skills or anything that increases the overall effectiveness of health care delivery.

To spread the change, tweets and Facebook posts will be sent out in periodic time frames throughout the month of February leading up to Change Day. WellFort Community Health Services is encouraging other health organizations to join the initiative. Are you up for the challenge?
