Minimum Wage Campaign to focus on health in January 2014
We all know that poverty is the biggest barrier to good health. AOHC is joining with health care providers across the province in January when the minimum wage campaign will highlight the connection between low wages and poor health with a call to increase Ontario's minimum wage. Earnings from full time, full year work at minimum wage must ensure income above the poverty line, and the minimum wage should be adjusted annually to keep pace with inflation.

Oral Health - Your advocacy work has made a difference
Many AOHC members are part of the Ontario Oral Health Alliance campaign which has been asking MPPs to fix children's public dental programs, and extend them to low income adults. This week the Ontario government responded to part of these demands with their announcement to streamline children's programs into one program, and increase eligibility criteria so that 70,000 more low income children are eligible.
See full details from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
As echoed in the December 18th Toronto Star editorial referencing AOHC's work on the oral health file, our push now is to urge all parties at Queens Park to support extension of public dental programs to low income adults.
