Oral health update -Tweet to #ONdental
Following AOHC's research findings that part of Ontario's new dental funding is being diverted to other programs, MPP Peter Tabuns tabled a petition on October 21 calling on the Legislature to ensure the committed funds are fully used to provide dental care to those in need.
AOHC has shared with The Toronto Star new data we obtained showing there were over 58,000 visits to hospital ERs in 2012 for oral health visits. This led to today's story, Ontario ERs ill-equipped to handle dental problems.
Last week they ran an article on seniors' challenges in affording dental care. Read the article here.
To keep this issue alive AOHC set up a new hashtag to follow conversations on dental issues in Ontario: #ONdental. Within 48 hours we had reached 40,000 accounts... so people are talking and the message growing for government action.
Please take 2 minutes to add your voice to the conversation
- Tweet a message from your own personal account, or from your organization's twitter account.
- Describe the oral health needs in your Centre. Repeat our call for gov't investment in public dental programs for low income adults.
- In your tweet include the hashtag #ONdental, and the hashtag #ONpoli. The latter links to conversations on Ontario policy issues, so links dental to a wider policy conversation in Ontario.
- Don't have time to tweet? Go to twitter.com/AOHC_ACSO and just "retweet" some of our tweets on dental.
- Don't tweet? Email the Toronto Star article to your MPP saying "it's time to invest in public dental programs for low income adults". Check www.ontla.on.ca to find your MPP
