"How Are You Really Doing?" survey pilot launched

AOHC is working in partnership with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW), one of the world's leading initiatives measuring societal progress, to explore how the Index can be applied in Ontario's Community Health Centres.

A survey pilot will investigate the use of the CIW as a population needs-based framework for planning, monitoring and evaluating progress toward better health and wellbeing for people, families, neighbourhoods and communities.  The client survey was designed to be used in a pilot with the overall goal aimed at measuring wellbeing in the eight domains identified by the CIW.

The survey pilot is entitled, "How Are You Really Doing?" The results will be analyzed to give a view of wellbeing at an individual and community level and will provide centres with a validated approach to measuring and improving people and community-centred holistic wellbeing.

The survey will be piloted in six centres across the province from late September to mid-December. Centres participating include: Chigamik CHC, Four Villages CHC, Vaughn CHC, L'Estre CSC, Mary Berglund CHC and Somerset West CHC.

For more information and how your centre can get involved, please contact Heidi Schaeffer, heidi@aohc.org.

New report released by Health Council of Canada

A new report released September 19th by the Health Council of Canada, Better health, better care, better value for all: Refocusing health care reform in Canada, examines the impact of the 2003 and 2004 health accords. It finds that improvements in health and health care have been modest and Canada's overall performance lags behind that of other high-income countries. Read the report.

Get screened for breast cancer

The provincial Under/Never Screened project has drawn our attention to an animated video that walks viewers through the mammography procedure, with humorous commentary and funny visuals. The animated video is intended to make people aware of what to expect when going for a mammography and hopefully, remove the fear element that can prevent people from taking the test.
