Shift the Conversation: Democratic Engagement
   
Democratic engagement measures the participation of citizens in public life and in governance; the functioning of Canadian governments with respect to openness, transparency, effectiveness, fairness, equity and accessibility; and the role Canadians and their institutions play as global citizens.

 

This week we showcase the Ward Six Community Action Team (W6CAT), a core group of affordable housing and housing co-op residents from Mimico, Ontario. With financial and resources support from LAMP Community Health Centre this group has engaged and mobilized their community.

Minister's Medal Honouring Excellence in Health Quality and Safety

 

To recognize the excellent work health care providers do every day, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term care is introducing the Minister's Medal Honouring Excellence in Health Quality and Safety. This medal will be awarded to teams of organizations and/or individuals who put patients in the centre of the circle of care and incorporate a focus on quality and safety into everything they do.

 

Applications are due to your LHIN office by September 16, 2013

Taking it Back: Housing, Shelter, Safe Space Now!
   

The Downtown East area in Toronto is one of the poorest neighbourhoods in Canada. It is also a neighbourhood experiencing rapid change as developers aim to buy up and redevelop the area.

 

On September 22nd the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty

will continue their fight for decent housing and shelters, safe spaces, and adequate income for all with a gathering at Allan Gardens Park.

Privacy Basics and Beyond Professional Learning Event
  

Provide centres with a grounding in privacy requirements, and an understanding of gaps and next steps to address them.

 

Featured speakers include: Alison Blair, Interim Director, Health Analytics Branch, MOLTC speaking on "Circle of Care and its Impacts on Health Links" as well as Tara Tyson, CIPP/C Chief Privacy Officer, Director, Privacy and Information Security OACCAC with her session on "Lessons learned by the Ontario Association of Community Care Access Centres (OACCAC) with health system integration efforts, privacy and data sharing".

Free webinar on navigating legal services for people with disabilities

 

This free webinar is designed to help workers identify legal issues and problems faced by people with disabilities. AOHC, through its AODA Education and Outreach Initiative, has invited ARCH Disability Law Centre, a specialty community legal aid clinic, to help centre staff  navigate the legal system and know where to refer clients for such issues as attendant services and independent living; legal counselling; accommodation in education; developmental services; housing; and social assistance issues, such as ODSP.
